Korean education. The Well-Chosen Korean Chinese and Chinese Korean Dictionary was a Korean to Chinese and Chinese to Korean bilingual dictionary published in China in 2001. The first half of the dictionary is the Korean to Chinese part, namely the entries are in Korean and the translations are in Chinese. The latter half is the Chinese to Korean part, namely the entries are in Chinese and the translations are in Korean. This study mainly analyzed the correspondence relationship between the Chinese entries and the Korean translations in the “Chinese to Korean part” and the errors in this part were also summarized.
This study is not only aimed to analyze the correspondence relationship between the entries and translations in the “Chinese to Korean part” of the Well-Chosen Korean Chinese and Chinese Korean Dictionary designed for Korean learners and the Chinese learners, but also aimed to provide accurate information of the correspondence between the Chinese entries and Korean translations and contribute to the compilation of the Chinese and Korean dictionaries in the future.
The contents of this study are summarized as follows. In the second chapter, the correspondence relationship between the entries and translation in the “Chinese to Korean part” was explained. According to the part of the speech of the Chinese words and the types of the translations, the number of Chinese entries and the number of Korean translations were calculated. In addition, according to the type of the entries and translations and the forms of the translations, their occupation rate were calculated respectively. The characteristics of each type of the translation were explained. In the third chapter, the errors of the translations were analyzed. The types of the errors are classified into four parts which are the writing and vocabulary, grammar, translation, materials and others. The fourth chapter revealed that there were not only errors of the translation but also other problems in the reference of the second and the third chapter. There several insufficient aspects including the deficiency of the structure items and practical translation, the lack of English annotation and the meaning of ancient Chinese words and the modern Chinese words. Therefore, the improvement plan for the correspondence between the entries and the translation for the Chinese Korean learners is summarized as follows. First of all, complete structure items should be presented for the beginners. Secondly, the errors in the correspondence between the entries and the translations should be avoided. Thirdly, the translations included in the dictionary should be widely used words and words that are difficult to understand should be avoided. The analysis results will not only be helpful in the dictionary compilation, but also enhance the practicality of the dictionaries. It is hoped that when the learners use the dictionary, they can find out the correct translations. In addition, it is expected that practical dictionaries can also help them to learn Korean much easily and increase their interest in learning Korean.
