This aims to represent continuous aspect of Korean, Kazakh and Russian in a typologycal perspective, and to compare and contrast semantic and syntactic feature of continuous aspect.
In this study, continuous aspect defines as an action in progress, that occur in definite period of time. The main distinction between continuous and progressive is the possibility of combining with active and state verbs. Defining this characteristics of continuous aspect helps to find and distinct continuous aspect marker from other aspect markers.
In chapter 2, aspect is divided into Imperfective and Perfective and then into smaller subdivision on the basis of Comrie(1976). In this chapter is described aspectual meaning and features of continuous aspect.
In chapter 3, the aspectual meaning of '-ko iss-' are examined from the view of basic meaning and extended meanings. It is discovered that the basic meaning of '-ko iss-' is 'continuous' and the other one is 'resultative'. Also the features of '-ko iss-' are described and defined that it is the marker of continuous aspect, not progressive.
In chapter 4, it is described four markers of kazakh language that is known in kazakh academic world as continuous aspect markers. But, after examining of each marker it become clear that only two of them ('-p zatyr', '-p otyr') are continous aspect markers. Other one are progressive and habitual aspect markers. Also, it is compared '-ko iss-' and kazakh aspect markers to define the differences and similarities across languages.
In chapter 5, it is described Russian aspectual categories. In Russian there are no Continuous aspect by itself but Imperfective and Perfective that are express all aspectual meanings. So, in this chapter it is compared '-ko iss-' and imperfective markers.
Chapter 6 summarizes and concludes the content discussed above.
