A study on Korean Language Curriculum Development for Migrant Workers through the Job Analysis: Focussing on the manufacturing process

This study aims to develop a job-based Korean language curriculum in the nature of each workplace. It is intended for unskilled migrant workers through Employment Permit System who have been working in Korea less than a year.

According to the above mentioned purpose, it mainly focuses on the below matters.

Firstly, discover specific characteristics of the migrant workers as Korean learner.
Secondly, discuss the necessity of job based-Korean language education and establish an educational goal for the migrant workers.
Thirdly, understand present conditions and problems of the Korean language education for the migrant workers.
Fourthly, prepare a theoretical foundation of developing the job-based Korean language curriculum for the unskilled migrant workers.
Lastly, propose a direction of the job-based Korean language curriculum development process.

This research has been closely examined in each chapter as below.

A different perspective on the migrant workers was presented after carefully studying the purpose, method, various preceding research works in chapter 1.
In chapter 2, existing theoretical foundations for the Korean language curriculum, syllabus, job analysis, and on-the-job training for the migrant workers were examined. Also, the meaning of the job-based Korean language education was narrowly defined in a certain intersected point of two different areas of the Korean language education and the on-the-job training. Furthermore, a theoretical framework for the job-based Korean language curriculum was carefully explored.
In chapter 3, the current situation of the Korean language education and the EPS-TOPIK, which the migrant workers through the Employment Permit System should have before or after entering into Korea, was analyzed. By studying it carefully in depth, I found out the problems and raised the necessity of the job-based Korean language education as a solution to resolve these problems out.
If I looked at the external environmental factors of the migrant workers in the chapter 2 and 3, the job analysis was carried out in chapter 4 in order to develop the Korean language curriculum for the non-professional migrant workers(E-9) in the workplace. Through this job analysis, the detailed contents of the job-based Korean language were extracted and carefully selected.
In chapter 5, I designed the overall Korean language curriculum for the unskilled migrant workers by accepting a theory of the on-the-job training for new employees and introduced the specifically designed job-based Korean language syllabus.
All research works were briefly summarized in chapter 6 with the meanings of this study. And, Its limitation and proposals were also added in this chapter.
