The aim of this study is to educate the Czech the Korean pronunciation. Especially it is for the beginners to teachLax, Tense, and Aspirated Sounds in Korean. Teaching pronunciation is very critical for the Korean learners. Although one’s proficiency in Korean is very high, if one’s pronunciation is inaccurate, it will be difficult to have a smooth conversation. Furthermore, since pronunciation can be fossilized easily, it would be harder to fix one’s pronunciation in the mid or advanced levels if one does not get a systematic education in the beginning level.
Compared to other languages, which commonly have voiced and unvoiced sounds only, Korean has a special phonological feature that has lax, tense, and aspirated Sounds. This feature seems to give the foreign learners of Korean the greatest difficulty and to cause them to make many errors.
Currently the studies on the systematic pronunciation education for the Czech have been very scarce. However, the demand on Korean education in Czech is increasing due to the Korean Wave.
Prior to carrying out this study, I have studied on the phonological system and phenomena of Korean and Czech, and done a comparative and contrast study between the two languages.
Based on the error analysis, I have come up with practical pronunciation lessons on lax, tense, and aspirated Sounds. Regarding the pronunciation lessons, I followed the model of “suggestion-practice-generation,” which is commonly used in the actual classroom. Plus, I have built lesson plans for pronunciation on tense Sounds /ㅂ,ㄷ,ㅅ,ㅈ,ㄱ/ and aspirated Sounds /ㅂ,ㅃ,ㅍ/, /ㄷ,ㄸ,ㅌ/, /ㅅ,ㅆ/, /ㅈ,ㅉ,ㅊ/, /ㄱ,ㄲ,ㅋ/.
There are not many studies on the systematic pronunciation education, compared to the increasing demand on the Korean learners of the Czech. In particular, for the beginning learners, educating Lax, Tense, and Aspirated Sounds has not been done enough. I hope that there will be more research studies on more various phonological system and phenomena of Korean.
