The purpose for this study is to select the tourism vocabularies for Korean learners who major in tourism and related fields at Universities in Korea for academic purpose. Also, grouping the vocabularies base on their level of difficulty and importance is essential in knowing the correct order when trying to learn those vocabularies.

Chapter 1, states the necessity and goal of this study, study the research on the existing selected Korean vocabularies for academic purpose and decide the range and the method at the research.

Chapter 2, establishes the concept of the study of Korean for academic purpose and the study of Korean vocabularies for academic purpose using the theoretical background as well. The concept of tourism vocabularies for academic purpose is based on the tourism characteristics. The tourism vocabularies for academic purpose are for prospective foreign tourism students at a Universities in Korea.

Chapter 3, shows the method of selecting the vocabularies and also shows the tourism vocabularies for academic purpose chosen from the tourism textbooks. A corpus is established based on the 9 textbooks used at a Universities in Korea that were chosen according to a certain standard.
The frequency analysis of the corpus was done through analysis program ‘Ddolmangsae 2.5’, which came up with 603,481 phrases, out of those phrases were 32,652 nouns. 629 nouns are used in 9 textbooks for more than 100 times, which sums up to 198,727 times consisting 56.5% of the total.
Vocabularies from the 629 nouns that were chosen and from Level A(elementary) & B(intermediate) Korean words for General purpose that are the same were removed. It was also verified twice by 3 professors, as a result 416 tourism vocabularies for academic purpose were chosen.

Chapter 4, 416 vocabularies were grouped by 3 professors into three categories; first, common vocabularies for academic purpose, second, tourism basic vocabularies for academic purpose and third, tourism essential vocabularies for academic purpose. Common vocabularies for academic purpose are also commonly used on the related fields. Tourism basic vocabularies for academic purpose includes everyday use vocabularies and names of places. Tourism essential vocabularies for academic purpose helps explain the fundamental concept of tourism.
Common vocabularies for academic purpose and tourism basic vocabularies for academic purpose are classified into 2 levels ‘ga’ and ‘na’ base from the ‘Standard Korean Language Dictionary’ and ‘Korean words for general purpose’. The result were 78 and 120 words for each ‘ga’ and ‘na’ for the common vocabularies, 67 and 85 words for each ‘ga’ and ‘na’ for the tourism basic vocabularies and 66 words for the tourism essential vocabularies.
The order of tourism vocabularies for education is first, the tourism basic vocabularies for ‘ga’ level, second, the common vocabularies, third, the tourism basic vocabularies for ‘na’ level and last, tourism essential vocabularies.

Chapter 5, Summarizes the research of this thesis, indicating the limitation and presents suggestions for future studies.

Hopefully, the list of tourism vocabularies in this thesis will help prospective foreign tourism students and students studying tourism related subjects, and also the teachers.
