This study is based on typical cultural heritage tourism regarding
South Korea Gyeongbok Palace. The purpose of this study is to test
whether there is any difference of visit's motivation and satisfaction
between Chinese and Korean tourists who visited a USCO-designated
world cultural heritage, Gyeongbok Palace, Korea. In addition, the current
study investigates how visit satisfaction affects intent to revisit the
world cultural heritage site. Furthermore, this study attempts to suggest
effectively developing cultural heritage tourism activities.
To reach the goal, Korean and Chinese tourists who visited
Gyeongbok Palace, Korea were selected as study sample. Using a
convenience sampling method, questionnaires for Korean and Chinese tourists were distributed from 2013 September 7th to October 7. A total
of 370 questionnaires were distributed, representing 185 for Koreans and
185 for Chinese. A total of 361 questionnaires were collected and 2
questionnaires with missing values were deleted for the further research
analysis. In order to accomplish research objectives, t-test and regression
analysis were conducted.
From the general characteristics of the respondents, the ratio of male
and female of South Korean was 49% and 51%, while the ratio of
Chinese is the same. 30% of Korean respondents were 30 to 40 age
group, while 33% of Chinese respondents 20 to 30 age group. About
monthly income, 34% of Korean respondents were between 2.5 million
and 3 million, while 35% of Chinese respondents were between 1 million
and 2.5 million. 25% of Koreans were engaged in the service sector,
while 35% of Chinese were engaged in professionals.
We conducted the T-test to see any difference of visit motivation by
nationality. The result showed that recuperation, psychological motivation
and knowledge motivation differed the most by nationality. Especially,
Chinese had a higher motivation compared to Koreans in recuperation,
psychological factors. Koreans had a higher motivation than Chinese in
knowledge motivation factor. We also used the independent T-test to
see the difference of the degree of the satisfaction level by nationality.
The results showed that Chinese had a higher satisfaction in human
service factor.
A regression analysis was performed to see the relationship between
satisfaction factors and re-visit intention. For Chinese, we could only see
the value factor have positive correlation with revisit intent. In contrast,

the personnel service factor and physical environment factor had a
significant effect on revisit intention. For Koreans, no significant
relationship between satisfaction factors and revisit intention existed.
