The Idiomatic Expressions can be seen as a reflection which contains all characteristics of a country. These may include national history, culture, life style, and even the thinking way of local people. Native speakers can use the expressions naturally is because they already got used to the country culture and the way of thinking, but for foreigner learners who is out of the culture will be difficult to understand those expressions. Therefore, it’s necessary to comprehend and get familiar to the idiomatic expressions since people use them in daily life the most. This researches on Korean and Japanese locution of human body, mainly on the words related to the Facial Region which refer to the Korean and Japanese dictionaries. The researching method is on the basis of the comparison between the meaning and expressions of the human body locutions, the idiomatic expressions can be defined as a construct in a given language that is formally composed of more than two words. Semantically, it carries the third meaning that extends over the simple sum of words and, pragmatically, it is fixed in its form and meaning so that it can be used conventionally. The chapter Ⅰ, is the introduction. It mainly reviews the previous research finding as well as unsolved problems. Besides, it states the aims, importance, and, the objectives of the research. All this information will to some extents familiarize readers with the concept of the idiomatic expressions and related notions. The chapter Ⅱ, the theoretical foundations of this research are provide through analysing some important concepts mentioned, locution and the idiomatic expressions of the standard definition and scope and type. The chapter Ⅲ, is a contrastive analysis stating the differences and similarities between Korean and Japanese idiomatic expressions, based on the Facial Region. These expressions are classified centering around meaning, and then the article examined what kind of ‘meaning contents’ literal meaning and idiomatic meaning have and what figurative characteristics are between them. The chapter Ⅳ, is the analysis of the idiomatic expressions from the chapter Ⅲ. Korean and Japanese belong to the same linguistic zone and began with very simiar grammatical systems. Korean idiomatic expressions are direct, bald, strong, and honest while most of the Japanese idiomatic expressions are indirect, vague, deviate, and unstimulating. Thus, beginning from bodily functions, bodily idioms have been expanded in various concepts and used in daily conversation very naturally, but as they are bonded to the history, culture, society, life style, nationality and religion of the country, they have figurative and implicit meaning. As this study analyzed the data of Korean and Japanese dictionaries, it couldn’t cover all the idioms used in real life. But this is significant to some degree in two aspects ; Firstly it examined other parts in detail as well as the key parts of the facial region unlike previous studies. Secondly it performed a contrastive analysis in depth focusing on idioms of verb and adjective type which are one of the most difficult things for Japanese-speaking learner to learn. At last I sincerely hope this study could contribute the reference to the people who are learning Korean or Japanese although it has some shortages.
