This research is about studying for teaching methods for the objective of teaching foreign learners in a more understanding and interesting way about Korean vocabulary with limitation on Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words. There are many researches to help many foreigners learning Korean at the moment in a more fun and easy way, and especially, education using media is also being actively studied. There is a variety in the media including dramas, movies and animations. Among these, this study chose webtoons that are interesting and useful even though they are not quite familiar to foreigners. Webtoons refer to the cartoons published serially on the internet. If education is carried out using webtoons, which have stories added to pictures, it will be easier to learn Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words, which have only been studied in writing and thought as difficult. Therefore, the purpose of this s is to recommend education plans for Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words using webtoons with subjects of foreign learners studying Korean in medium-to-high levels. Especially, it is not stopped at only planning for vocabulary teaching, but the purpose is ultimately help the learners to understand and comprehend the sentiment and the culture of Koreans to speak more natural and fluent Korean.
This uses webtoons as important educational tools for the learning of Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words. Today in the education field of Koreans, it is being searched educational methods using webtoons or cartoons, but it is still lacked so far. In this sense, this study tries to recommend efficient education plans that can be implemented in the practical education field.
The contents of this are as follows.
In Chapter II, it is looked at the features of Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words and the necessity for education on them in educating Korean vocabularies. Also, matters related to Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words studied in previous literature are analyzed. Based on these, it is recommended a list of Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words to prepare for education plans using webtoons.
In Chapter 3, a survey investigation is carried out on education on Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words using webtoons with subjects of foreign students studying Korean to find out about their recognitions on education on Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words using webtoons. In this way, valid reasonings to base this research are prepared.
In Chapter 4, it is studied what webtoon is and the definition, the features and the educational values of webtoons as valid tools of educating Korean vocabulary. And, the current situation and the formation of webtoons are analyzed. Moreover, by preparing for standards to select webtoons, webtoons needed for education on Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words are selected.
In Chapter 5, it is searched for education plans on Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words using webtoons and it is reviewed how to use webtoons. By selecting one webtoon out of those selected in Chapter 4, education study plans for Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words are prepared. And, studying units are prepared to be implemented in practical classes, and course teaching plans are recommended accordingly.
Finally in conclusion, the research is summarized and simplified. Also, it is presented the significance and the limitations of this study.
In previous literature, education plans for Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words using cartoons have been studied, and there are also those studies on education on onomatopoeic and mimetic words using cartoons in education plans for languages other than Korean. Therefore, it can be said that education of Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words using cartoons or webtoons are effective. Webtoons are easy to read, fun and include more Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words than other media. Therefore, webtoons are media more appropriate for education of Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words for foreign learners studying Korean. If they are implemented in practical classes the educational plans on Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words based on the webtoon data subjected on foreign students studying Korean, it is expected that the foreign students will feel the learning of Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words easier and more interesting.
