The purpose of this study is to analyze the Korean lexical collocations from two databases; 『Collocation E-Dictionary』 which was the 21st Sejong Project Final Results(Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and the collocations listed from 『Korean Standard Dictionary』(The National Institute of the Korean Language). In chapter 2 showed that each academics defined collocation differently, so it is necessary to have a certain criteria to determine which is collocation or not. That criteria is so called cohesion and the lexical cohesion can be generated by 1) Lexical polysemy and 2) Restriction on lexical co-occurrence by chance or typical
Chapter 3 concerned with the collocational typology. In case of collocation which is composed of two words being used in its original sense, one word is used in the sense of other words it is called presuppositional collocation. Besides, the cohesion or restriction of words occur typically or accidentally, it is called typical collocation. In case of collocation which is composed of two words where one word is used in polysemic meanings, in this sense it is called polysemic collocation. However if it is certain that polysemic word needs to go together with other word, this is called dependent collocation.
Chapter 4 compared the collocation lists between the frequency of corpus and the list from native speakers. Using the criteria mentioned in this study, 6,319 Korean lexical collocations could be re-extracted from 『Collocation E-Dictionary』 and 1,656 collocations from 『Korean Standard Dictionary』. Added up with 884 collocations unlisted in 『Collocation E-Dictionary』, finally made the ultimate Korean collocation list composed 7,203 collocations.
