The purpose of this study is to seek ways to develop the reading texts of Korean textbooks for female marriage immigrants based on the analysis of the currently developed Korean textbooks and needs research by questions.
In Korean society, population migration rapidly increased at home and abroad because of the rise in international stature, globalization, frequent exchanges with foreign countries and others. On the other hand, the growth of international marriages has been rapid due to low birth rate, aging and imbalance between supply and demand for marriage. The percentage of international marriages accounted for by total marriages increased from 1.2% in 1990 to 11.0% in 2008. The number of multicultural families has been increasing at a very rapid rate. Such a diversity of marriage patterns has enabled a number of female marriage immigrants who had little experience with Korean language to come into Korea. In the process, Korean education for them has gained importance than ever before.
Thus, this study has analyzed the reading texts of Korean textbooks for female marriage immigrants and reflected their needs by survey and the past study results of Korean reading texts. Moreover, this study aims to develop the reading texts for female marriage immigrants based on this.
In chapter 1, we demonstrated the purpose and needs of this study and suggested research methods.
In chapter 2, we observed the current state of female marriage immigrants, and the results of needs research were analyzed.
In chapter 3, this study analyzed the extent to which the female marriage immigrants‘ needs shown in the results in chapter 2 were reflected in the Korean textbooks. Based on the results, this study examined the problems of the reading texts in the Korean textbooks.
In chapter 4, this study seeks ways to develop the reading texts to solve problems of the Korean textbooks for female marriage immigrants. Based on this, it presented the reading texts available for Korean language classes.
In conclusion, this study was completed by organizing the content above and making proposals for future directions of the study.
