Since 2007, secondary schools in Thailand have chosen the Korean language as a second formal subject. Since then the amount of students who study the Korean language in Thailand has increased, but there still lacks educational insight in the teaching of the language.
Most Thai students learning Korean study it in secondary school and they do not usually study Korean for academic learning or for their career. They learn Korean as a hobby because they are interested in Korean culture.
It is therefore essential for there to be additional research made into Korean cultural education. Thus a survey was taken by Korean teachers and students about recent Korean cultural education. Moreover this research suggested choosing Korean cultural education clause. Finally the purpose is that Korean cultural education supports Korean learners in Thailand secondary school to learn more about Korean culture.
This thesis’s chapter contents are,
Chapter one, this research proposes the purpose of the topic and investigates previous studies critically.
Chapter two, this research explains a theoretical background of Korean cultural education in Thailand secondary schools. Moreover this study clarifies the characteristics of Thai students and the demand for cultural education through the investigation and analysis of previous studies and teacher’s diary records. In addition this research describes the recent Korean education system and its contents in Thai secondary schools through analysis of available information and data.
Chapter three, this research sets a framework for a demand survey about Korean cultural education for Thai secondary school students. It describes the meaning and process of the demand survey and composes contents of the survey. Furthermore, research explains the theoretical background for setting up the detailed contents of a Korean cultural education system.
Chapter four, this study analyzes the demand survey’s results that were taken from both teachers and learners. Through the survey’s result, this research considers Korean cultural education and analyzes the detailed demands of teachers and learners of the Korean culture education content. Finally this study suggests a list of Korean cultural contents for Thai secondary school students.
Chapter five, this study synthesizes and summarizes all of the results of this research and gives a definition with a limitation of this research. Lastly, it finishes with recommendations for additional studies.
