Tense is a linguistic form that indicates the occurrence time of an event. It is a grammatical category which shows the time of the events by the change of form or other grammatical symbols.
This thesis is based on the theory of comparative linguistics; then it contrasts and analyzes Korean tense system and Chinese tense system; the common and different traits between the two languages are found by means of analyzing. Therefore, the makes some suggestions on correcting tense errors for Chinese students.
Chapter 1, introduction on research purpose, research method, and former study in the field.
Chapter 2, the comparison between Korean tense system and Chinese tense system.
1. Discuss the function of the present tense '-는-'in korean; then list the words utilized to define the time in Chinese. Besides, discuss the corresponding relations between tense in Korean and Chinese. And also analyze the correspondence between '-는-' in Korean and Ø in Chinese.
2. The analysis on the function of the past tense '-었-', '-었었-' And then discuss the past tense words '了, ?' in Chinese. The corresponding relations between '-었-' and '了, ?' are analyzed under different circumstances and rules. Then the introduces the basic function of '-었-' and '-었었-'. '-었-' represents past; '-었었-' represents the time before past. '-었-' equals to '了' in Chinese; while '-었었-' equals to ?
3. The discussion about '-겠-''s function in Korean and '?, 要, ? ''s function in Chinese. And analyze the words with correspondence and the words without correspondence. Then the briefly discusses the differences between '-겠-' and '(으)ㄹ 것'.
Chapter 3, surveys were conducted among Chinese students who are learning Korean. The shows the common mistakes students made during the learning process, and analyzes these mistakes and confusions. There are some common traits and different traits between Korean and Chinese. The Chinese students may make a lot of tense mistakes due to the differences. This chapter analyzes the tense errors and the reasons.
Chapter 4, the comes up with an education plan to help correcting the mistakes.
1. Emphasis on the errors that caused by the difference between Korean and Chinese tense systems. Give the students a basic understanding of the tense to reduce confusion.
2. The solution for the irregular phonological changes mistakes and vowel harmony mistakes should make use of tense ending of word application chart. The students are suggested to read five minutes every morning to help develop a sense of language.
3. The mistakes of confusing ‘-었-'and ‘-었었-', '-겠-'and ‘-(으)ㄹ 것’ The explain the difference, the interchange ability of ‘-었-'and ‘-었었-', ‘-겠-'and‘-(으)ㄹ 것’.
4. The comes up with an effective class model which is based on the solution for tense errors. The model includes the form and meaning of the content.
The chapters mentioned above are the education plan based on the mistake analysis about '-는-', '-었-', -겠-'. This may not cover every aspect in the field of study. It is in the hope to help Chinese students learn the tense in Korean effectively.
