Recent interests in Korean incrementally language on education research as a foreign language have been growing along with not only theoretical issues of korean linguistics and teaching and learning foreign language but cultural factors, use of multimedia and construction of classroom environment.
In teaching foreign languages, the main stream of teaching methods have been changed from Grammar-Translation Method, Direct Method, Audio-Lingual Method to Communicative Language Teaching. According to the flow, for the present study, many Korean education institutions put much weight on a communicative language teaching.
For an effective communicative language teaching, the English teacher is required to use various teaching methods and practical materials in the class. With the current reality in school education environment in mind, the teacher also has to use supplementary materials. Among them, the most effective and convenient material is pictures.
The purpose of this study is aimed at investigating how effectively picture materials can be made and used as supplementary materials in classes which are mainly focused on enhancing student's communicative competence of the Korean language. For the purpose aforementioned, the investigation is centered on picture materials of textbooks from Korean Language education institutes, EFL(English as a foreign language) textbooks, and JFL(Japanese as a foreign language) Japanese textbooks.
