This thesis puts the purpose in presenting education contents and methods that make use of the modern novel among the literature texts in order to practice culture education towards learners who study Korean language as a foreign language. The investigation about how to progress effective culture education has been conducted, as a result of the proliferation of the recognition that high communication of the target language is possible as long as there is an understanding of the culture as a basis. In this tendency, modern novel which needs a broad understanding is the genre that has the considerably high educational value.
The contents of this study are as followings:
Chapter 1, investigated the necessity and purpose of a study as well as a preliminary study and described the study method.
Chapter 2, examined the meaning of the education in the modern novel in terms of language, literature, and culture concretely, and explored the present condition of literary works, which are included in the Korean language textbooks, published in the institutions of Universities and Korean language textbooks for the foreign students.
Chapter 3, set up the selection principles of culture education contents based on the objectives of culture education that is established in the existing studies within the culture of holistic point of view, and categorized the contents of Korean culture education. In addition, it took the example with <The Sarang Guest and Mother> in order to examine how the categorized content is reflected in the real literary work.
Chapter 4, designed the objectives of culture education, classified by beginning level, intermediate level, and advanced level, along with instruction-learning model and instruction-learning curriculum plan in order to enhance the utilization of the modern novel and open the education possibility.
Chapter 5, organized the study and suggested the meaning of this study and the development direction of the study on Korea culture education method that makes use of the modern novel.
