Along the global village trend of 21st century's, the racially homogeneous social structure of korea which have endured for 5,000 years, is changing to multi-national and multi-culture society. As a consequence of this trend, many social conflicts come to passing and can not deny.
The illegal immigrant and foreigners crime which have increased drastically after open-door policy are becoming pending social problems in our society. Especially, it is pity that the foreigners who came to korea after 'The Korean Dream' the dream of working in Korea but could not adjust themselves to our society because of cultural conflicts, so most of them became illegal immigrants and criminals eventually.
The purpose of this study was look at the trend of foreigners crime and to make a effective scheme which prevent foreigners recidivism according to their national, culture characteristics. As methods of this research, analyses of survey which conducted among foreign prisoners who accommodated in correctional institutions was made to derive the problems. In addition, the purpose of this study was to suggest a exemplary treatment model for the foreign inmates in korea and was to make a contribution to reduce foreigners recidivism and to assist successful rehabilitation after deportation to their countries through international cooperation in the correctional field of vocational training, equal treatment and criminal extradition. Besides, a good image of Korea is expected to improve.
The unusual thing about the survey result, 70% of male and female inmates who answered questionnaire wanted to live in korea if they are giving the choice, even though their legal status were inmates which mean they must serve forced labor. According to this unusual result, the current forced deportation policy will be no more best policy. So if they want to live in korea and we can accept them as our neighbor, establishing a safe ways to live together with us will be a good and new alternative to prevent foreigners recidivism.
