This study discusses how referential expressions is differently coded in English and Korean in terms of animacy scale. In this , referential expressions mean pronouns, names, common nouns and zero anaphora. For this purpose, The English and Korean parallel corpuses have been analysed on the basis of individuation scale and hierarchy of persons. First, in matter of individuation scale the frequency of pronouns, names, common nouns, ellipses used is investigated in two languages. Second, in light of hierarchy of persons the prevalence of first person, second person and third person is explored in them. |
