모더니즘 시대부터 의식되어진 사회적 디자인은 오늘날 일상 속에 디자인의 역할과 개입이 커지면서 더욱 주목받고 있다. 공간 디자인 분야에서도 윤리 의식을 가진 디자인을 꾸준히 이어... 모더니즘 시대부터 의식되어진 사회적 디자인은 오늘날 일상 속에 디자인의 역할과 개입이 커지면서 더욱 주목받고 있다. 공간 디자인 분야에서도 윤리 의식을 가진 디자인을 꾸준히 이어나가고 있지만, 올바른 방향과 구조적 방법에 대해서는 사회의 다원적 성향으로 인해 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이에 디자인 액티비즘은 사회적 역할을 행동으로 유도하고, 긍정적 대안을 제시하는 새로운 디자인 방법으로 부상했다. 본 연구는 디자인 액티비즘을 통해 20세기 고도의 소비주의와 문화 동질화에 반하여 사회의 가치기준을 재정비하고 사람과 공간과의 관계성을 다시 바라보고자 한다. 이에 대안으로서 반제품 디자인을 연구하여 사람들이 각자의 자신만의 공간을 스스로 형성해가거나, 혹은 다수의 협업적 행위를 통해 시간이 지날수록 획일적 가치 한계를 넘어서는 공간 디자인을 완성해 가는 것을 목표로 한다. 본 연구의 방법은 다음과 같다 첫째, 디자인 액티비즘이 발생하게 된 이유와 그 흐름에 대해 알아보고, 문헌 고찰을 통해 최근의 연구 경향과 특성을 분석한다. 둘째, 반제품의 범위를 제품 영역의 부속품으로 한정시키지 않고 제품, 가구, 공간 등으로 확장시켜 유형화한다. 확장된 개념인 반제품 공간 디자인을 심리적, 구조적, 미학적 특징으로 나누어 이해한다. 셋째, 반제품 공간이 디자인 액티비즘으로 실현 가능한지 살펴보고자 관련된 사례를 조사하고, 어떠한 역할을 수행하는지 알아본다. 이를 통해 반제품 디자인이 나아가야하는 전략에 대해서도 알아본다. 이러한 연구를 통해 얻어진 결론을 다음과 같다. 반제품 디자인을 통한 참여와 행위는 개인과 집단 안에서 사회 대안적 방법들로 모색될 수 있다. 공간을 형성해 가는 과정이 주어졌을 때, 개인 스스로의 정체성 확립과 공동체와의 공감대 형성을 개선시켜 준다. 참여 과정에서 형성된 인공물에 대한 애착은 지속가능으로 이어지는 대안이 될 수 있다. 또한 해체와 조립의 변화 가능성은 경제적이고 이동의 자유를 주지만 전문성과 품질의 한계로 시장 안에서 제시하는 것이 수월해 보이지 않는다. 그럼에도 앞선 체계와 교육이 병행되었을 때에는 모든 계층을 위한 디자인으로의 가능성을 가진다. 이는 모든 비전문가들에게도 공평한 기회를 주며 보다 쉽게 참여 행위로 유도한다. 이러한 특징은 개인의 작은 행위를 통해 사회 전체의 변화를 가져온다. 개인의 감정에 대한 위로와 개인성 극복의 목소리는 더 이상 누군가가 완성시킨 것을 선택하도록 하는 것이 최선이 아니라는 의미를 가진다. 디자이너는 선택할 물건보다 선택의 폭을 디자인 해주는 것을 고려해야 하며, 이는 과거 서로 비슷한 결과물에 대한 극복의 방안이자 이상적 형태의 기준에 대한 재설정이다. 하지만 이러한 가능성은 실험을 통한 검증 및 지속적인 심화 연구가 필요함을 밝힌다. 본 연구는 더욱 빠르게 변화하며 다양한 문제를 안고 가는 현대사회에서 새로운 사회적 디자인 구조를 제시하는데 그 의의가 있다.

In spatial design field, design with ethics is continuing, however, multi-dimensional approach of society hampers right direction and structural method. As such, design activism is attracting society to take action as a new design method that provides positive alternative. Against excessive consumerism and cultural homogeneity in the 20th century, this study rearranges social value and examines relationship between human and space through design activism. The purpose of this study is to complete spatial design structure that overcomes standardized value by forming individual space after reviewing design of semi-finished products and by cooperating with the majority. The process of study is as follows: First, this study analyzes the cause, trend and characteristic of design activism through literature review. Second, this study categorizes the scope of semi-finished products and understands psychological, structural and aesthetic characteristics by expanding the concept of semi-finished model such as space, furniture, product, etc. Third, this study examines feasibility of semi-finished product as design activism and researches relevant cases and performed roles. By doing so, this study considers future strategy of semi-finished design. The results of analysis are as follows: Participation and behavior through semi-finished design can be sought by social and alternative methods among individuals or group. Once the process to form space is given, forming consensus with community and solidifying identity can be improved. Attachment to artifact which is formed during participating process can be sustainable alternative. Also, the possibility of dissolution and assembly gives economic advantage and freedom of movement, however, suggestion to the market is difficult due to expertise and quality limitation. Nonetheless, if preceding system is paired with education, this design opens up the possibility for all classes, offers fair opportunities to all non-experts and promotes participatory behavior. This kind of characteristic brings change in society by individual’s insignificant action. In conclusion, condolence to individual’s emotion and overcoming individuality imply that selecting completed product is not the best option. Designer needs to consider designing the width of choice not chosen product. This action can be considered as resetting standard of ideal type and overcoming similar results from the past. However, all possibilities need to be proven by experiment and continuing and extensive research.
