The growth of a modern city is by a medium of culture and art. Culture, art, communication is became the most important keyword in modern city and artistic utilization of an underused space is emerging as a method for the area activation. According to increasing interests about culture and art with an economic growth, a try to utilize an underused space recognized negatively occurs. As culture and art is became back into the spotlight in the role of a base for revitalization that solves the problem of area decline, it is easy to keep in touch with the examples of reusing an undersused space as a space for displaying artistic creation in domestic. This is to reduce cultural gaps by enlarging the opportunity of enjoying culture for the local residents and offer a creation space for artists. As a space for displaying is an indicator to show the cultural level of the country, it is important to establish specific vision and identity. It hasn't been 10 years yet to discuss utilization of an underused space in domestic. Also, an awareness of importance of identity is not enough yet even though urban regeneration is accelerated through culture and art with emulating international best practices. But to maintain an underused space in the city regenerated by artistic utilization consistently, it needs not only the study for expanded visual representation to satisfy artistic desire and demand of the local, but also building a specific identity. SeMA bunker is new name of Yeouido underground bunker, and Seoul museum of art will manage it from may, 2017. Yeouido underground bunker was found under construction of bus transfer centers on Yeoui main street, and it is only estimated to be used for guard of high government officials, but there is no record left. However, it has the high value as the fruit of cold war era because it has been preserved to retain its original form, and was verified the regeneration potential by having over 1,200 visitors when it was opened in 2015. Also, there is not enough cultural facilities compared with tourist attractions to have only 63skyart for displaying place. It is suitable place to be utilized SeMA bunker verified usefulness and regeneration potential as a displaying place for various cultural exchanges. Seoul museum of art has been starting to use pushfully SeMA which is short for 'Seoul Museum of Art' to make a new leap forward international museum by benchmarking the success of MoMA. Seoul museum of art use the name of SeMA, but they takes only the existing MI not to develop the identity. It has been over 10 years since they used short title 'SeMA' to aim glocalization, but the level of awareness is still low. The mix and lack of identities is the problem not to be recognized to the public for a long time. SeMA can bring more confusion to visitors because they changes identity everytime with the concept of displaying, so it needs to be separated and emphasized identity. Therefore this study aims to develop the identity design for SeMA bunker based on the historicity of Yeouido underground bunker. The discrimination from other displaying places can be maximized through extract of visual elements reflected the specialty of SeMA bunker, and it is possible to reinforce the brends image by symbolizing the vision. Use this to express the unique image of underground bunker modernly and flexibly for transformation as the communication place with local residents especially. For the study method, it firstly arranges the idea of brands identity and the change of displaying place through reference books and extracts the visual elements of displaying. Secondly, this study restricts an underused space to the place has characteristics of suspension of function and examines the concept and necessity of recycling about an underused space in the city through existing researches and examples. Thirdly, this study verifies the necessity of culture and art for recycling of an underused space through the great cases in domestic and foreign and understands about the state if utilization of an underused space in domestic. Based on this research, it designed the identity system of new formed SeMA bunker including characteristic and unifying elements of Seoul museum of art. It replaces the symbolism, historicity, and unfamiliar image of an underused space with familiar and dynamic image to express it as an alternative space of city culture and the rest area for local residences. It also suggests a design of application reflecting various identities effectively. Culture and art is the means to perform the recycling of an underused space effectively. This study expects to continue the research of visual expression and identity consistently with the discussion about an utilization of an underused space in the city.
