With the rapid development of information, communication technology, many countries have come highly dependent and influential to one another. Not only products, but also cultural aspects of a nation are being spread faster than before. In addition, opportunities to travel and to study has grown with the above mentioned trend, leading to increase in international marriages. International marriages are no longer a rarity and it is not difficult to find children of multi cultural background. Unfortunately, our schools are still very much not prepared to entertain these students and the true meaning of educational democracy is yet to be achieved, thus leading to educational inequality. That being said, recently, our education system has acknowledged the importance of adjusting to the multi cultural culture of today’s society and has taken step s to bring out changes. First, education for the multi cultural has been reflected more comprehensively in the education curriculum. In addition, Multi-cultural Education Support Center was established in 2013 to facilitate adaptation of students of multi cultural background into the public school system and to help them to live a healthy school life. Supporting areas will include providing advisory services in entering/transferring schools and providing additional educational support to help in basic learning activities. More importantly, multi cultural students and regular students should each recognize and accept each other’s cultural originality and uniqueness. It is important to show interest in one another and to be ready to embrace differences. In order for our students to align themselves with the globalization where respect for cultural differences is a must, there is an immediate need to fine tune the current education system. To do this, we need to see firsthand, how the multi culture education is being implemented in our school system and how the students are responding. Especially, there is a need for a thorough research and study on how the above is reflected in textbooks. Through this dissertation, I intend to look into how the multi cultural aspects of education is reflected in textbooks and how exposed our students are to this content. Also, the research will include whether, what is include in the textbooks is sufficient enough for our students to understand the every globalizing world that the students need to face in the future. Since the education curriculum was amended in 2015, the research will touch upon what changes need to be reflected in the 2018 version. The dissertation includes analysis of five government endorsed textbooks(2009) on how well multi cultural aspects have been reflected. Based on the analysis, all five textbooks included illustrations and reviews of multi culture, however, most tend to focus on the western culture. All books lacked sufficient illustrations and content on the Asian culture. Most textbooks were limited to portraying simple comparisons and differences among Western, Asian and Third World countries. Therefore, in order to produce textbooks that provide the opportunity to learn about various cultures, following actions need to taken. First, diverse cultures need to be dealt with. Currently, textbooks tend to focus on Western art illustrations. Illustrations from other cultures need to be treated with equal importance. In addition, illustrations of the modern art that represent the contemporary societies need to be supplemented. Second, not only illustrations but also the background information on the cultural history need to be added. Summarized information from simple comparison between cultures may lead to misconception of a given culture and create misunderstanding. Third, among the three areas(experience/expression/impression) that make up textbooks, there is a need to increase the portion on impression which includes much content on multi culture. In today’s art textbooks, content related to expression has the highest exposure. However, in order for students to experience various cultures and to build a comprehensive artistic stance, there is need to equally balance out the above mentioned areas. This study is intended to help in creating textbooks that adequately reflect multi cultural education and to support our students in establishing one’s identity and in accepting different values and cultures in preparation of future society. ,韩语毕业论文,韩语论文网站 |
