Traditionally, a creative activity of an artist has been understood to be carried out by a subconscious creative inspiration. But modern perspectives started to see the possibility of creativeness reached through the communication between the subconscious and the conscious thought, and brought the necessity of a continuous information search into focus. As the result, it has become important to understand the nature of the information seeking behavior merged in a creation process, and the information needs of artists. Earlier studies on the information seeking behavior of artists have mainly focused on the members of university. Therefore, it is needed to move the focus onto the artists in more active service, especially emerging artists whose state is between students, who have yet to start their career as artists, and professors, who are already well-established in the field. The object of this study is to understand the information needs during each creation process of the emerging artists in visual arts field. The model of art making process has been used to survey the information needs of each phase; information sources of preference; information seeking; and the present condition of the use of the library. The work targeted emerging visual artists who have used fifty-nine domestic visual art creation studios, conducting surveys both on-line and by personal visits throughout a month, from 17th of October to 25th of November, 2016. Furthermore, additional interviews were made to supplement the survey. Eighty artists gave reply, and sixty-nine valid sets of survey were collected. The result of the work showed that the artists have been feeling they need plenty of information during their making process, and the kind of information they most wanted was 'the expert knowledge specializing in art'. Artists also needed information on specific artists and their work, in particular. The analysis on each making process ed that the most wanted information during artwork conception was business information as well as expertise knowledge specializing in art; during idea development, material, media, technique and skill information and specific visual information; during making the artwork, information about material, media, technique and skill; and during the phase of finishing the artwork, business information and feedback on the work. The information source in demand during each making process differed as the following: during artwork conception, the artists required information sources on-line or printed; during idea development, they wanted visual information sources such as visual work or art work and internal information sources at the same time; during making the artwork, fellow artists or trial-and-error; during finishing the artwork, experts such as curators. Furthermore, the phase when the artists felt the most difficulty in obtaining necessary information was the artwork conception phase, then idea development, and making the artwork, finishing the artwork for the last. Subjects have responded that the information source that they wanted to use but had difficulty in actual usage were academic colloquiums or seminars about art and the classes in educational institutions such as art academies or schools. They also responded that the reason why they had difficulty in using such sources was because the subjects did not know where such institutions or seminar venues were located, or because those venues were too far away. Survey results showed that the subjects did visit libraries acquire art books but did not use them often. The artists also barely asked for help to the librarian. The reason why they did not use the library was because libraries were located too far and the artists were not accustomed to the system. This study analyzed the responses together, figured out the nature of information needs that occurs during the making process of emerging visual artists and compared the result with earlier studies. Unlike what earlier studies suggested, information needs towards specific images did not occur very often. Subjects did not like the possibility of plagiarism or effect on their work, and sometimes even needed specific images to search and find out whether a similar work already exists. When subjects selected information, not only whether it contained necessary content but also the source and the speed were considered important factors. The importance of physical form, which was analyzed to have an impact on information selection in earlier studies, was relatively small. Moreover, it was more common to look for specific information than just browsing. In the same context as recent questions raised against artists' browsing, browsing barely occurred in using libraries. Investigation showed that emerging visual artists were interested in fields which were irrelevant to art. Nevertheless, rather than collecting information throughout a variety of fields, they preferred to fix one or several particular main concerns, hence gain continuous information on them. The work showed that the artists depended much on human network in achieving information on techniques, skills, and media necessary for creation, and also that they gained information about trends and events in the art world through critics or creators, mainly on their SNSs. Finally, the subjects ed about the library that they wanted expansion of more recent materials on art or improvement of electrical sources in electrical libraries. The information needs of emerging visual artists were in the same context as existing studies on artists' information seeking behavior, nevertheless changing with the information environment. This study has a critical meaning due to the fact that it has targeted currents artists, breaking academic bounds, and also that it perceived the information needs and preferred information sources during creation in the context of creation process. ,韩语论文范文,韩语论文 |
