First, Why God has saved this world by “The Anointed One”? In this question, curiosities about what kind of thing this oil is, and why this oil should be poured on a person’s head are included. Second, how this “project of the anointed one” of God has been accomplished? In this question, curiosity about how the plan of God to save the world by the anointed one has been progressed from the historical perspective is included. Third, what is the meaning of the providence of anointing to us today? In this question, my curiosity about the meaning of the practice of anointing today is included. Because the subject of anointing in today’s theology and faith of Christians is minimal. In this research process, various themes and subjects such as oil, anointing, the anointed one, God who accomplishes the anointing project, the perspective and attitude of the world who accepts the ministry of God, the perspective and attitude of Christians who accepts the ministry of God are intertwined. Since theologians has not been interested in this topic, there are not many resources. In addition to this, a preconception that a ritual of coronation with anointing is a old historical event and it’s meaning for today has vanished, and understanding that God, Bible and the world provides rich foundation for our faith might put the value of this research in question. However, when we call Jesus, we use to say Jesus Christ, and the word Christ means the anointed one. So, I believe that this provided more than enough value of this research. Before the outline of the anointed one project surfaced, anointing ritual of coronation was very common in the old near East. This is very interesting to see that God understands the people’s culture deeply and communicates with people within the culture. Started among gentiles, coronation with anointing was adopted by Israelites. To discern if the background of the ritual among the gentiles and that of adoption into the people of Israel are same, it must be studied what oil is. By this research, it was turned out that oil is one of very important elements to keep the created things to maintain its original form. Every creature should have enough oil in it to preserve its original form of creation. Oil is the most important element for this purpose. Its function has not limited in physical form. Oil makes a person true person, a leader true leader, and a king true king. This was a reason that oil was poured in coronation ceremony. God utilized this ritual of anointing to human being who lost their image before the fall to restore their original image. Human understanding that oil restores original image and the will of God are not different. By God’s permission, Israelite people anointed priests, kings and prophets in the inauguration. But actual anointing ritual has been gradually disappeared. The time has come that without actual anointing immaterial anointing brought same effect. In this research, I studied Bible and traced chronological events of anointing to prove this. According to this list of events, anointing ritual was replaced by invisible anointing in around the exile. At this time and forward, a thought of the anointed one, that is, the messiah proliferated. A prophetic perspective and literature developed greatly and the expectation of the Messiah has set in place. When the expectation of the coming of Messiah has been ripened, God sent the anointed one to this world. However, incarnation of the second person of the Trinity and the crucifixion and the resurrection for the purpose of completion of salvation was unexpected to the Jews. The Messianic view of the Jews did not include such contents. This research contend to prove that Jesus was Messiah from the Gospels and the Acts focusing on the dialogues of Jesus. Jesus exposed that the fact that he is Messiah during the public ministry period. As the anointed one, he anointed his disciples to become disciples. After the ascension, the ritual of anointing of His church has not been right with the Biblical teaching. The Roman Catholic Church elevated the anointing ritual as a sacrament, which did not exist in Jesus’ days. Fortunately, the Protestant Church through the Reformation developed an anointing ritual according to the providence of God. However, in early twentieth century Pentecostal Church began to use the term “anointing of the Holy Spirit” insensitively, it implied that the Holy Spirit is something that can be poured out over a person. This has to be dealt with properly. People of God are anointed by God, restored original image of God that was lost by sins, priests who are worshiping God, and prophets who listen to God and proclaim the word of God.
