As we move into the age of new media or multimedia, the contemporary man lives in a close relationship with a variety of visual media. Among TV, movies, internet and personal broadcasts, TV may be said to be the media that plays an active role in communication between information sender and receiver. TV, accessible and friendly to anyone, has been the visual media of public for a long time. Since the launch of the world’s 15th and Korea’s pioneering radio wave on May 12, 1956 through a partnership between United States of RCA and private Mr. Hwang Taeyoung, Seoul Station(KBS-TV) launched in 1961. TBC(The Orient Television Company) launched in December 1964 and MBC(Korea Culture Broadcasting Corporation) in 1969, leading to a new broadcasting era for Korea. SBS(Seoul Broadcasting Service) appeared as well. Given the social environment that lacked visual attractions and leisure activities, television penetrated rapidly and caught the ears and eyes of the masses. In less than 50 years, TV informational communication technology developed dramatically particularly in the 1990s. From a few terrestrial broadcasting services and the pirate satellite broadcasting with the launch of the Mugunghwa Satellite 1996, finally several dozens of cable TV as well as private regional broadcastings were available to the viewer. With the transition to digital broadcasting era, the way of communication change from analog one-way system to a two-way communication encouraging participation of the receiver, i.e. the viewer. A variety of differentiation strategies are being developed to improve the quality of the design and satisfy diverse appetites of the viewers.
With the initiation of Korea’s first Telecom Internet commercial services (KORT service) in 1994, internet spread rapidly especially among the youth. However, because the users searched for contents on the internet, problems with the usage of lewd phrases in ing and with dating were revealed.
On the other hand, it is facing restrictions in standing up to television that provides unlimited materials on ing, education and entertainment.
Broadcasters are putting in a lot of effort in competing with each other for viewership as well as competing with other media for market share and influence.
In order to further differentiate its services, broadcasting graphics design is actively used in television in order to provide extra information and to live up to viewer’s expectations.
Each year a number of disasters and incidents occur and if video or image of disaster and accidents were not available during the process of making broadcast news, a variety of techniques were leveraged to make up for this.
KBS announced that the “displacement effect” where viewers select KBS news over those of any others for coverage of large events such as natural disaster or crisis, and this reflects the trust of the people of KBS which is the public broadcast service for disaster events. As computer graphics technology such as 2D and 3D graphics advances, cases of image reproduction being inserted tends to increase.
The most popular over-the-air broadcast news media of graphic elements and 3D graphics news reproductions must be used systematically and take into consideration the formativeness. However, there have not been empirical studies on the effect of the utilization of these techniques in broadcasting news reproductions on perception of the viewers.
The methods of the study includes surveys which was conducted by constructing a research model and hypothesis for effective cognitive action. Through basic research of survey respondents, specific content of the questionnaires were analyzed. The researcher examined the conditions of the 3D graphics implemented in the production environment and the news and explored through analysis what kind of system 3D graphics news reproduction are utilizing. To implement 3D graphics news reproduction from terrestrial broadcasting, the researcher focused on MBC Newsdesk, SBS News 8 and KBS News 9, which are the key news of each broadcaster. This analyzes the formativeness perceived by the terrestrial press news recipients and analyzes the format of a news coverage of a disaster environment to derive components of formativeness. This then goes on to analyze the effect of components on the perception action of recipients of 3D graphics news reproduction and studies how this system can be utilized.
First, the use of 3D graphics disaster news replay technique maximized the effect of information transfer and facilitated the understanding of the news.
Use of graphics through ing based on facts can increase credibility of the news. While the use may differ depending on the content of the ed news, the use of replay techniques for incidents and accidents does not enhance understanding of the news or decrease the credibility of the article.
This tends to result in a negative consequence of raising the level of emotional perception of fear, sexuality or violence. Therefore, when using replay techniques during the process of making broadcasting news, more attention should be paid to maximize the communication effect without causing unnecessary perception of fear, sexuality or violence.
Secondly, the use of reproduction in news s were analyzed to contribute positively in making the viewers concentrate on what is being covered. This positive contribution to perception is associated with techniques like realistic reproduction or 3D graphics news reproduction. This can be interpreted as viewers are already used to colorful video techniques and the simplicity of 2D graphics cannot catch their eyes anymore. Therefore, if one wants to take advantage of the news replay techniques as a means to increase the viewer concentration, one will be needed to provide a dynamic picture image.
Thirdly, depending on the type of news coverage, use of 3D graphics news replay to describe a chronological story in an accident situation such as marine disasters to create in specific details can lead to creating a brutal and obscene image of the accident.
Take the case of Sampoong department store accident; The lack of 3D graphics news replay technique meant the realistic conditions of the accident were ed without filters and caused psychological trauma to the viewers, leading to rejection symptoms. If a systematic description of the situation is required using 3D graphics news replay techniques used in news articles, the techniques must be applied with restrictions.
This validated the news replay techniques and understanding of the news, as well as the expressiveness and the reproducibility of the news, and a statistically significant relationship was observed. 3D graphics news reproduction was analyzed to enhance understanding and trust of the viewers.
Living in a variety of media images, the speed and accuracy of the news through use of image, video and subtitles are the essence of ing. However, careless use of reproduction techniques in broadcast news that require truth and objectivity requires further considerations and studies.
This study limited its scope to news ed to chronologically brief disaster events that occur in marine accidents.
In reality of broadcasting news, reproduction techniques are used in a variety of areas such as politics, economy and culture in order to increase effectiveness of delivery or use images to describe what is difficult to be explained in words. It it hoped that studies following this would expand its scope and explore the effect on perception of using 3d graphics news reproduction techniques in diverse news situations using a variety of techniques such as animation changes depending on news character and situations.
