The purpose of this study is to suggest the need to consider the Japanese-toned terms and refined words in terms of the synonymic relationship, rather than past aspect to regard the Japanese-toned terms as the target of purifying and consider the Japanese-toned terms and refined words as synonymous.
To this aim, the research needs, objectives and methods were described in the introduction, and previous studies on the Japanese-toned terms and refined words were briefly discussed.
In Chapter 2, the concepts of Japanese-toned terms, refined words and synonyms that are used in this study were defined.
Next in Chapter 3, existing list of Japanese-toned terms and vocabulary lists for learning Korean were compared. They were classified as follows through the comparison: 1) Japanese-toned terms are listed but refined words are not listed, 2) Both Japanese-toned terms and refined words are listed, 3) Refined words are listed but Japanese-toned terms are not listed. It was found that the use of vocabulary should be examined through corpus in order to select a proper list of vocabulary for Korean lessons because some Japanese-toned terms of 3) are not used in Korean language. In addition, top 50 high frequency Japanese-toned terms were presented for research based on the foreign heading words by the language (Japanese) of 『A collection of refined Japanese-toned terms』(2017) and 『Standard Korean Dictionary』(2017).
Chapter 4 has examined for the difference between Japanese-toned terms and the corresponding refined words after analyzing the meaning, collocation and co-occurrence of each pair of words to prove the need to look the two vocabularies in terms of the synonymic relationship In this process, all the 50 pairs of words showed certain differences, supporting the hypotheses of this study. Also, the aspects of the synonymic relationship of the two terms and relation between the proper word and Chinese words were mentioned through the analysis.
