Language and Society interacts. Company's name is given and called by people and it reflects flow of the language usage closely. Studies on name of educational institution have significance in that it is closely linked to language life of all ages including children, students and adults.
This study intends to examine features of words used in names of educational institution in Ulsan by analyzing them according to word and institution type and figure out the problems related to Korean linguistics and its solutions.
This study categorizes words utilized in names of educational institution into native, Sino-Korean, mixed and sign one. Moreover, it investigates what type of word educational institutions use in accordance with their specialty. Educational institutions are divided into early childhood education, college entrance exam prep/supplementary education, foreign language, art, Physical education and other type of institution and reading room. Name of educational institution is divided into two parts: words for company name and for business type. This study only analyzes word for business type which is produced by individual's creation.
In chapter 1, there is explanation about purpose of this study, review of previous studies and methods of investigation via introduction.
Chapter 2 categorizes words used in institution's name into 5 types and describes features of the words. It also finds out preference for name and structural features.
Chapter 3 states problems of institution's name related to Korean linguistics and its solution.
Since name of educational institution exert a strong influence on young students, each institution should pay close attention when deciding it. Correct language education and usage should be preceded in school and media, and perception of each person who decide company name should also change.
