현대사회는 정보화, 다양화, 전문화를 지향하는 국제사회로 서로의 문화교류를 통해 국제이해를 증진시켜 나가는 시대이다. 하루가 멀다 하고 끊임없이 새로운 정보가 신문, 방송, 인터넷을 통해 쏟아지고 있다. 이러한 정보의 대부분은 언어로 표현되고 전달되고 있다.
언어는 사용되는 과정에서 다른 나라의 영향을 받으며 사회 발전과 더불어 크게 변한다. 또 외부에서 새로운 문물을 받아들일 때 그에 알맞은 새로운 언어가 발생하기도 하고 새로운 문물과 함께 외국어가 그대로 들어오기도 한다. 이와 같이 타민족과의 교류를 통해 들어오는 언어를 외래어라고 하는데 외래어는 어느 나라 말에나 불가피하게 유입된다.
소설은 무엇보다 대중들의 공감을 얻으려는 목적이 가장 크다. 따라서 남녀노소를 불문하고 대중적으로 많이 읽혀지고 있는 작품 속에는 일상생활에서 빈번히 사용되는 외래어가 잘 나타나 있을 것이다.
일본 현대 문학 중에서도 소설 속에서 나타난 외래어를 분석하여, 현대 일본어 안에서 외래어의 현 위치를 고찰하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 나아가 외래어 연구에 기초자료로 활용될 수 있는 것 역시 본 연구의 목적이라고 할 수 있겠다. 본고에서는 현대 일본 소설 중에서 특히 무라카미하루키(村上春樹)와 무라카미류(村上龍), 요시모토바나나 (吉本ばなな), 에쿠니가오리(江国香織)의 작품을 분석대상으로 삼고자 한다.
조사대상의 모든 작품 속에서 나타난 외래어를 수록하였으며, 이를 토대로 선택된 어휘들은 분야별, 어원별로 분석하여 고찰하였다.
분야별 기준에서는 일상생활/사회, 문화/예술, 식 분야가 상위를 차지하고 있었으며, 어원별 분류에는 외래어의 85% 이상이 영어에서 유입된 어휘라는 것을 관찰할 수 있었다.

Language can be affected by another nation and be changed by much with the social development. When introduce the new civilization into this society from the outside, also, a new word is coined or a word of foreign origin is used in itself.
It is common-sense that "Novel" mainly focuses on catching the public sympathy. So, a loan word may be used in much-talked-about work.
A major objective of this is a study of the current status of a word of foreign in the modern Japanese among the Modern Japan Literatures. In this , especially, focusing on Murakami Haruki, Murakami Ryu, Yosimoto Banana, and Ekunigaori’ works.
All the survey object words are listed and also, they are analyzed by a field and their origin.
In conclusion, Daily life/Society, Culture/Art, Eat fields are highly ranked within "Field" criteria and it is fined that 85% or more of a loan word is from English within an "Etymologic" criteria.
