A signboard which is exposed near at hand in our daily life is attached one place for a long time. Therefore it naturally has a great effect on the public consistently and also weights with language life of the public. On the basis of this premise, this looked into the actual conditions of language use of the public by investigating ' the language of signboard' of Jeonju city.
The result of investigation shows that the problems of the language of signboard are 'a misuse of a borrowed word and a foreign language', 'vestiges of Japanese', ' a use of a word in fashion and a slang word', ' a mark of an error', and so on. Especially, it is the most serious to use a borrowed word and a foreign language. Although a vocabulary is capable of spelling Korean, a borrowed word and a foreign language are used on purpose for polishing and sophistication. In addition, there are so many vestiges of Japanese among lacking in awareness despite our lots of endeavor. Moreover it need to be purify because those vocabularies are being changed into expletive. And there are many low and superficial words in fashion and slang words for a time. But it can lead to generation and class gap and cause many social problems. Lastly, there are wrong marks badly with a language orthography. Overall, it doesn't occupy a large position but can't overlook the influence of ' a signboard'.
As a result, the aim of this is to analyze a wrong marked 'a signboard' on the basis of a language orthography such as 『the rules of spelling of Hangeul』,『the provision of the standard language』,『the Romanization standard of Korean words』,『the standard of borrowed words』. Among this, cases like 『the rules of spelling of Hangeul』and 『the standard of borrowed words』 is most common.
『the rules of spelling of Hangeul』is divided into an error of sound and an error of form. The error of sound includes a writing fortis of a sound, a confusion of an assonance and no application of a rule of the initial sound of a word and the error of form includes a writing without boundary of a substantive ,a declinable word and the ending of a word, an omission of a phoneme, a confusion of an irregular conjugation, going on expression of a word attached suffix, a wrong mark of a semivowel, an error of a suffix and so on.
『the provision of the standard language』 investigated universal vocabularies which is used widely despite nonstandard language. Although they're nonstandard languages, we need more discussion whether they're wrong expression or not. In addition a signboard which is used a dialect is investigated, it goes wrong with the provision of the standard language but acts on closeness of a local resident.
『the Romanization standard of Korean words』is hard to find owing to it's uncommon case.
『the standard of borrowed words』is analyzed extensively focued on English because of it's most frequent. The basic principle of 『the standard of borrowed words』doesn't admit a fortis , but a mark of forties was frequent in real life. A fortis is admitted partly little by little, but it is unsuitable a real sound. For this reason it needs more discussions. Furthermore we need to discuss a range of usage. There are so many reasons to happen these wrong marks but one of them is 'Korean orthography'. Thus this looked into articles of a discussion in 'Korean orthography' laying stress on the parts of many wrong marks.
『the rules of spelling of Hangeul』looked around a mark of a fortis, a mark of ‘-오’ and ‘-요’, and a mark of 'a redundancy stem /-sound/ㅁ', 『the standard of borrowed words』looked around a mark of a fortis and a mark of sound [l]. What is more, this looked around the problem of user as well as the problem of society and country.
A signboard will have to be a street exhibition center of beautiful Korean as well as a street Korean textbook for children and foreigners, Hangeul beginners. It is necessary for each field to give an effort for public role of a signboard. The government and society will have to intensify a guidance and regulation over a signboard language, realize a new signboard culture and find a variety of institutions in order to raise an importance of Korean. In addition scholars of Korean will have to grasp the current stream of language so as to correct wrong direction, modify and supply for the public in order to understand Korean orthography easily. It is also important for a storekeeper and a trademark maker to change their wrong consciousness which includes use of a borrowed word and a foreign language for polishing and sophistication and the wrong spelling system for unique style.
