This thesis is intended to grab on-going status of languages of juveniles, and to observe its problems and abuses, and to find the way to work out them aiming at the correct choice of languages.
It is generally belived juveniles' languages fall far out of Hangul's rules of marks and languages and thereby, cause confusion on communication and understanding. Especially, internet jargon has influenced them to use modified languages and symbols. Its abuses are getting serious. This observation, therefore, focuses on finding out current status of juveniles' languages.
Firstly, this study enrolled 445 students(middle and high school) and through questionnaire, found current status of communication by PC. Its survey help find how they think about their own languages.
Secondly, this study emphasizes on the survey and its breakdown of their languages through chatting rooms, boards and E-mail.
Thirdly, this study breaks down such data showing juveniles' daily languages as 18 volumes of collected diaries written for one year by one class each middle and high school and the letters, one of subjects for admission to high school, to both their parents ad teachers.
As a result, it comes to know that juveniles' languages have largely been influenced by internet jargon. That is to say, there are lots of problems, likely, on writing as per what they hear, intentionally-changing vowels, using short-formed syllables, adding the unnecessary consonants, abusing slang and profane languages inclusive of newly-coined words, wrongly-using borrowed and foreign words, expressing their thoughts by symbols, speaking negatively and scornfully, playing down counter-parts' characteristics and so on.
Following points strands for the problems and abuses which affect juveniles.
Firstly, those are causing confusions on rules of the national languages.
Secondly, those are leading juveniles to less observation of rules and regulations, less emotion and wide-spreading circumstances to play down human-being.
Thirdly, those may cause low-profile cultures by using low-profile languages, and pursuit just fun and pleasure with simple way of thinking and activities.
Fourthly, juveniles' languages turn devastated into prestige of words being lost and especially in the case of juveniles who are obliged to go to great lengths to keep up with their characteristics, their personal dignity being also gone off.
Fifthly, those lead juveniles to falling short of respectful mind for elderly people by not using honorific words but abusing words carelessly in the same manner as doing with their friends. It simply leave them less polite and easily causes lack of community activities.
Following solutions on the problems raised by juveniles' using languages are offered in the ways of education and social surroundings.
Firstly, as an educational solution, the first thing to do is that teachers have to exert their positive intention to get juveniles' undesirable choice of languages improved and at the part of juveniles, they have to recognize by themselves the problems on their own languages. The education of grammar shall be reinforced. And further, teachers shall be obliged to correct wrong choices of words and grammar directly on collected diaries and notebooks. Recommendably, teachers let students by themselves have a go at correction of words which they run into internet jargon, and at surveying examples of wrong choice of words with giving homeworks or performing play-a-role drama, through which students feel objectively.
Secondly, as a social surroundings, most desirable ambience of PC communication shall be built. Its users shall pour lots of efforts to sweep out wrong choice of words to settle down correct use of languages. Demonstrably, it is also important to develop computer programmes help users guide to select correct languages. Media accounts feel responsible for distortion of languages. Casters have to pay particular attention to choice of correct words, avoiding inserting titles with slang, popular and low-profile languages, symbols so on. At home, parents giving their kids as many opportunities to guide for correct languages, respecting others' characteristics, keeping up with healthy way of thinking and attitudes as possible.
This study was aimed at finding out the problems on juveniles' languages used by PC and their living languages and offering improvements. Hopefully, this thesis will help established generation understand a little bit more juveniles' languages. Especially, teachers will get some more better idea from this thesis to guide them to use correct languages.
