This study is aimed at improving Korean literacy and the academic ability of middle school returnees rather than basic Korean communication skills, and is also focused on helping in the adaptation to school life in Korea upon returning from long stay abroad. It is hardly common to find a study on the curriculum for middle school returnees in terms of their Korean langage proficiency and cultural understanding. This study provides a more realistic method of KSL(Korean as a Second Language) teaching by using newss, resulting in the consilient functions of the Korean language namely, speaking, listening, reading, and writing and Korean culture. The target of this study includes those who have lived for more than two years aborad, and have problems adapting to school life and complying with academic requirements upon their return. We surveyed a total of 83 middle school returnees by assessing their level of understanding of the Korean language and adaptation to school life. Based on the results of this survey, we have proposed a new Korean syllabus and lesson plan table with the help of newss. The following objectives are specifically considered in making this KSL syllabus; 1) To conduct a self-directed study by means of keeping a diary after reading a news 2) To evaluate the returning students’ academic performance and level of improvement before and after this NIE lesson 3) To improve Korean cognitive academic language proficiency(CALP) 4) To establish a KSL syllabus reflects the middle school returnee’s needs 5) To connect the Korean language with other subjects 6) To be consilient for the four language functions, grammar, pronunciation, and culture 7) To modify the content of the lesson plan according to the returnee’s level of proficiency Based on the above-mentioned considerations, we suggested a new KSL syllabus for middle school returnees with the use of newss. It is as follows; First lesson: Orientation for writing a diary and a letter of self-introduction after reading a news Second lesson: Meeting a mentor by reading ‘human books’ in a living library Third lesson: Understanding the Korean War Fourth lesson: Learning about the public campaign on the disputed islets in Dokdo and the issue of comfort women Fifth lesson: Reading the news’s ‘opinion section’ and searching for proverbs Sixth lesson: Discussing what it means to have a happy life Seventh lesson: Understanding the importance of self-control Eighth lesson: Discussing the ‘culture of the single-life’ Ninth lesson: Discussing the ‘culture of slang’ Tenth lesson: Identifying examples and talking about neologism and abbreviations. ,韩语论文网站,韩语毕业论文 |
