Abstract This study aims to examine Chinese students’ ability to use nominal clauses based on the academic writing materials written by Chinese graduate students and Korean native speakers. It consists of 5 chapters. In chapter 1, it looked at the importance of embedded sentence with nominal clauses, a kind of complex sentence, the need for its education and research methods. And then it examined the range and validity of the mark of embedded sentence with nominal clauses and reviewed previous studies focusing on embedded sentence with nominal clauses in terms of Korean linguistics and Korean educational linguistics. In chapter 2, it observed controversies over composite forms of nominal ending ‘-는/(으)ㄴ/(으)ㄹ 것’ and ‘-는/(으)ㄴ/(으)ㄹ 것’ and their characteristics. In Chapter 3, it analyzed how the mark of nominal clause is combined with tense-aspect endings, particles and generic predicates in the embedded sentences with nominal clauses appeared in academic writing of Chinese Korean language learners and Korean native speakers, and examined the differences in the use of nominal clauses between the two groups. It also mentioned that it can not be said that sentences of composite forms with nominal clauses are not nominal clauses. However, the analysis of composite forms can not be the same with that of nominal clauses. The aspect of nominal clause mark's combination with particle in the composite forms is pre-set and the composite forms are hardened as a heap as well. And connective and final endings in a sentence serve the same function. Therefore, the analysis of how composite forms with nominal clause mark are used by Korean native speakers and Chinese Korean language learners shows how the follow-up elements of composite forms are used. In chapter 4, it categorized aspects of errors of embedded sentences with nominal clauses and composite forms with nominal clauses made by Chinese students into errors in using nominal clauses and errors in not using them, errors in using composite forms and errors in not using them and made an analysis of the result. And finally in chapter 5, it made some suggestions for the education of Korean nominal clauses based on the results of the study.
