The purpose of the study was to investigate age-related differences in event-related potentials (ERP) components associated with processing of time reference according to the long distance dependency. A total of 30 participants (Young=15, Elderly=17) take part in the study. Mean age of young groups was 27.6(SD=4.867), and that of elderly groups was 62.267(SD=2.738). The stimuli consisted of 90 Korean sentences containing tense reference. The syntactic structure of these sentences was ‘subject / indirect object / direct object / adverb / verb’or ‘adverb / subject / indirect object / direct object / verb’. There are two distance conditions. The one was long distance between tense adverb and verb. The other was short distance between tense adverb and verb. Each distance condition had also two conditions that are controlled and manipulated sentences. The target sentences were classified into four conditions depending on these conditions. Each condition consisted of 15 target sentences, resulting in a total of 60 stimuli with 30 filler sentences. The stimuli were presented in a word-by-word manner. After presentation of final word, participants were asked to judge the sentence plausibility. The electroencephalography (EEG) was recorded from 32 channels following the international 10-20 system, and mean amplitude was analyzed. Behavioral results revealed that the elderly group showed significantly lower accuracy and slower reaction time than the younger group. In case of accuracy, the difference between groups depending on the distance dependency. And also in case of reaction time, the difference between groups depending on the distance dependency was significant. ERP results revealed that the ELAN and P600 components emerged in the young group. But, in the elderly group, the ELAN component was emerged. LAN components was not emerged in the both groups. ELAN component is initial reaction related with analyzing syntactic structure of sentence and P600 components reflects a monitoring process that triggers reanalysis when integration fails. In the long distance condition, the processing was necessary to maintaining working memory costs to hold the meaning of tense adverb for sentence integration. And In the manipulated condition, the processing was necessary to use more efforts to detect morphosyntactic agreement. On the other hand, in case of elderly group, P600 component was not emerged. It indicated that the elderly group failed to processing tense reference according to distance dependency. To conclude, the results of the present study provide ERP evidence for age-related differences of the representation and processing of time reference depending upon distance dependency provided in sentences. That is, the age-related changes of on-line time reference processing abilities may be responsible for worse performances of elderly adults on the off-line plausibility task compared to young adults. ,韩语论文题目,韩语论文题目 |
