The purpose of this study is to analyze cultural categories and contents reflected in Korean textbooks for marriage-based female immigrants and to suggest a plan of possible improvements. In this study, we were analyzed 2 sets of textbooks for marriage-based female immigrants (10 books in total): "Korean language study with female marriage immigrants", Vol. 1-6 and "Korean language and Korean culture study with immigrants", Vol 1-4. As a result of the analysis of the textbook, the distribution of cultural categories was not suitable for the stage. Also, the cultural contents presented in the textbooks were not concrete. And there is lack of connectivity between language and culture. The following lists are the ways to improve the cultural contents of Korean textbooks for marriage-based female immigrants. First, cultural categories should be appropriately distributed. The distribution of cultural categories should be organized on the basis of the cultural items per category. In addition, cultural categories and contents should be selected and reorganized to reflect the specificity of marriage-based female immigrants. Second, the cultural content presented in the textbook should be more concrete. It should not be limited only to the representation of simple words. It should be presented in detail considering the requirements of marriage-based female immigrants with emphasis on real life situations. Last, there should be connection between culture and language in textbooks. "Thematic center" presentation method should be used to select representative culture topics. It should naturally expose its content in the areas of vocabulary, grammar, listening and speaking, and reading and writing. It must be composed to allow learners to study the language and culture together. This study is not sufficient for the development of a textbook. However, the cultural reflection of the textbooks for marriage-based female immigrants was analyzed and the cultural categories were rearranged. It also proposed improvements in cultural elements and the connectivity of each language area. It may be basis for development of textbooks for marriage-based female immigrants. Continued research is needed to develop textbooks that reflect more and more effective and practical cultures for the increasing numbers of marriage-based female immigrants.
