Recently, apart from placing emphasis on the grammatical competence of the four communication skills, the whole academia including Korean educational circles is also paying great attention to the discourse competence. Belonging to the same oriental culture, the communication between Korea and China is enhancing day by day and the amount of Chinese learners in Korean educational institutions is also increasing rapidly. This research focused on helping the Chinese advanced learners to acquire Korean refusal strategies appropriately by using Discourse Completion Test to collect data of Korean native speakers, Chinese native speakers and Chinese Korean advanced learners. It will reveal the similarities and differences of the refusal strategies in Korean and Chinese. In addition, it will discover whether the transference of native language exit and how much it transfers while the Chinese advanced learners using Korean refusal speech act. Chapter 2 went through the stream of speech act theory from 1960 and reviewed the concept and strategy of the refusal speech act. Also, set up the analysis criteria of the refusal speech act based on the preceding research. In chapter 3, it explained the research method and procedure of this study concretely. Discourse Completion Test(DCT), which can be used to get large amounts of data in a short time, combined with the pre-speech act and age differences, social status and familiarity, the three factors of the speaker and the listener. The survey were set up of 18 situations for 3 groups (90 subjects in total) from the twenties up to forties. Chapter 4 analysed the three subjects groups' refusal strategies in accordance with the 18 situations, and analysed the usal of refusal strategies according to those 3 factors-age differences, social status and familiarity, and pre-speech act in order to compare the refusal strategies of three subjects groups and to discover if native language affects the Chinese advanced learners while they are using refusal strategies in Korean. Chapter 5 summarized the results of the analyze of the survey and described the implications and limitations of this research . This research examined the refusal speech act strategies of Chinese Korean advanced learners in detail, which can be the basis of the data and practical research of refusal speech act. Also it discovered the transference of native language while acquiring the refusal speech act, looking forward to the future direction of Korean speech act of refusal.
