According to previous studies in the field of Korean linguistics and Social linguistics, differences exist in the gender language of Korean language. In this study, It focuses on the feminine expression, female-preferential language in a dialogue of Korean textbook. In Chapter Ⅰ, purpose and necessity of this study, previous studies are discussed.
In Chapter Ⅱ, first, the term of feminine expression is presented and previous studies are discussed and summarized. Second, Gender-preferential language differences in Korea are examined with respect to vocabulary, syntax and phonemics.
In Chapter Ⅲ, it seeks to understand the language cognition of gender differences by the native Korean and the advanced learners of Korean. 150 native Korean and 30 advanced learners of Korean were surveyed. This questionnaires survey was made up of ten questions for native Korean and four sets of dialogues from Korean textbook for native Korean and Korean learners. The results show that it's easier for native Korean to infer gender in Korean textbook than Korean learners because they have no sense of gender cognition in Korean situations.
In Chapter Ⅳ, the examples and consequences of textbook analysis were presented and discussed in accordance with the theoretical background about feminine expression and preceeding results of questionnaires survey from the chapter Ⅲ.
Generally, there are feminine expressions in Korean textbook.
Based on the results obtained from this study, it will be able to bring up the need to consider gender for the selection of pedagogical content and the development of writing Korean textbooks in the field of Korean language as a foreign language.
