Human use language to deliver their thoughts and emotions that occur throughout social activities.
Among languages, idiomatic expressions are difficult to use properly in usage and sense for the foreigners as well as for native speakers.
This study classified six kinds of idiomatic expressions by its functions and analyzed how syntax and restraints of meaning occur in synonymous expression and how the idiomatic expressions are used in a sentence.
This study clarified how native Koreans recognize synonymous relationship among idiomatic expressions in the system of Korean language and figured out the reason of their recognition. And some methods was suggested to elucidate effectively the Korean recognition to the foreigners.
The meanings of idiomatic expression changed from individuals to communities or the communities changed the meanings arbitrarily. The preceding and following factors of the significant variations of the meanings could not sought out throughly in this study.
Nonetheless, it is undeniable that the idiomatic expressions have truly intimate relationship with human lives and express the Korean culture, moreover, the importance cannot be more stressed for foreigners to learn idiomatic expressions for multilingual living.
