The purpose of this study is to carry out the tourism Korean language education to Chinese tourists during their stay in Korea, who are interest in Korean culture and have some basic knowledge of the Korean language, by using a situational Role play to minimize the difficulties they have in communicating in their tourism situation. The strength of a Korean language course using a Role play lies in the fact that it allows the learners to have practical and significant learning by helping them improve their speaking abilities by experiencing actual communication situations in their classrooms. In this regard, the study went through the following procedures to give the tourism Korean language course using such Role play. In Chapter 1, the necessity of the tourism Korean language education for Chinese tourists was investigated, the previous studies were reviewed to find out how the tourism Korean language and the Role play in the Korean language education were studied, and research methods were presented regarding how the overall will be developed. In Chapter 2, the theoretical basis for this study was presented by examining the background of the theories of the situational learning and Role play introduced by this study. In Chapter 3, types of Chinese tourists' traveling were analyzed to design the teaching model of the tourism Korean language. The necessary contents to be included in the course were identified by investigating the most popular places and activities among the Chinese tourists and things to be applied in the language course were selected by analyzing the English conversation textbooks being available in English education of which the tourism parts were most studied in the foreign language education to organize the syllabus for the tourism Korean language course. Learning topics were selected based on the analyzed contents, and the syllabus for the tourism Korean language course was organized by organizing the resultant contents. In Chapter 4, the actual tourism Korean language course was organized based on the contents generated in Chapter 3. The teaching-learning model suitable for the language course using the Role play was constructed, and class schedules were arranged to suit the characteristics of learners as tourists so that they could achieve their twofold purposes (i.e., learning and tourism). In addition, the study presented the learning materials and teaching plans for the tourism Korean language course suitable for the constructed syllabus so that the learners could see how the course actually proceeded. Finally, a summary of this study was provided in Chapter 5, and its significance and limitations were specified. The points of the significance of this study are as follows. First, there have been few studies on the Korean language courses for tourists though they are potential Korean language learners. In this regard, this study recognized their importance and researched the tourism Korean language. Second, a learner-centered course based on a Role play instead of a instructor-led teaching was constructed in order to arouse the learners' interest by making sure that they could have an actual and significant learning. Third, learning with the Role play in this study increased the rate of success in actual communication by giving the opportunities to learn pronunciation, intonation, and gestures. Fourth, learning materials were constructed and distributed to the learners so that they could continue to learn the Korean language by using them even after the language course ended. The limitations of this study were as follows. First, this study failed to overcome the dilemma of the learners who could speak the Korean language with no listening abilities, a common issue in all forms of situation-centered learning Second, the study did not reflect every possible situation that the learners would experience. Third, the study failed to present detailed plans to make it possible for the tourists to invest two days off their tourism schedule to take the classes. Fourth, the learning materials and teaching plans constructed by this study were not sufficiently used in the actual classes, leading to the failure to verify their practicality and suitability. As the number of tourists coming to Korea is on the steady increase, there is expected to be a good outlook for the Korean language education targeting them. Therefore, we expect this study to be helpful in studying the tourism Korean language, minimizing the inconvenience from the tourists' communication, and thus actively transferring the benefits to the Korean language learners.
