The purpose of this study is to seek the specific corresponding relationship between the phoneme of consonants and its allophones included in the phonetic system of standard Korean and Mandarin Chinese. In addition, by setting up a classification system of allophone depending on the articulatory and auditory characteristics and adopting the perspectives of articulatory phonetics and auditory phonetics, the analyzes the context and combining characteristics of consonants and vowels of allophones in Korean and Chinese, therefore providing more scientific and evidence-based linguistic materials for both Korean and Chinese speakers.
The introduction part presents the purpose and research methods of the study. Through reviewing and seeking problems from existing comparative discussions about the phoneme of consonant and allophone of Korean and Chinese, the research direction is also confirmed.
The first part of the study compares phonemes in Korean and Chinese, aiming at presenting the similarities and differences of phoneme systems within the two languages. In the second part, the context in which allophones occur is discussed, in the sequence of plosive, affricate, fricative, nasal and liquid, hence the existence of allophones is proved.
The result of the comparative analysis is presented and the conclusion of the study is also systematically summarized in the conclusion part.
