The Study of the Contrasts Between Korean and Thai Onomatopoeia
This study aims at contrasting between the Korean and Thai onomatopoeia. In the thesis the onomatopoeia of the two languages are contrasted and analyzed taking into consideration the difference between Korean and Thai in order to explore their phonological, morphological and syntactic position.
According to this research, there are many studies related to the Korean onomatopoeia; however, the research on the Thai onomatopoeia are still limited. Therefore, this thesis would be beneficial to both the Korean and Thai language learners in helping them to understand both languages in this aspect, as well as helping them to improve their academic studies.
This study is presented in the following order:
Chapter one explains the main purposes of the research; it appoints the scope of this study to compare what part of a language includes a research method and examine it in relation to previous studies. These previous research studies are related to the comparative study of Korean onomatopoeia to other languages, including the Thai onomatopoeia, and have been done in the field of education, and reduplication in Thai research.
Chapter two contrasts the Korean and Thai onomatopoeia based on the phonological process. It reviews the system of consonants and vowels of both languages from the basic symbols to speech features. Similarities and differences are examined in both languages.
Chapter three contrasts the Korean and Thai onomatopoeia from a morphological perspective. The morphological analysis of each structure in Korean and Thai onomatopoeia were conducted by looking at similarities and differences.
Chapter four provides a contrastive analysis of the Korean and Thai onomatopoeia from the syntactic point of view. It explains the differences and similarities of both languages and it examines at the features in Korean and Thai onomatopoeia sentences.
Chapter five is the conclusion and summary of this study.
