This study aims to discuss the plans for integrated education of Korean language function based on whole language approach to improve language ability of learners as a second language. For this purpose, Chapter 1 presented the purpose, method of study and organization of discussion, reviewed the preceding studies related to this and clarified what this study aimed for.
Chapter 2 discussed the necessity of whole language approach in Korean education, concept and feature of ‘Whole Language Approach’, one of language learning theory closely related to this study. In addition, this study discussed the necessity of integrated education of language function integration in korean education, concept and feature of 'integrated education of language function.
Chapter 3 examined the integrated aspects of language function focusing on teaching materials published by educational institutions in 6 universities, the main fields of Korean education. In particular, this study presented type of language function integration and tendency of language function integration in korean education focusing on ‘activity of language function’, ‘sequence of language’, and ‘integrity of language function’
Chapter 4 presented the learning model of the second language and the process of understanding and expression processing from aspects of the second language acquisition. The learning model of the second language presented was reflected in the language activities per type of language function integration proposed by this study. This study finally proposed the optimal integration model of language function by actually applying the language activities pr type of language function integration presented by this study, of Korean learners in education in universities.
Lastly, Chapter 5, conclusion, summarized the above contents, and concludes with comments on positive aspects of this study by mentioning that the purpose of this study is to raise effectiveness of integrated education of Korean language function based on ‘Whole Language Approach’; to contribute to development of stagnated language activity model in korean textbook, and to improve Korean ability of learners as the second language.
