Chinese is isolating language so that its ending structure is not as complicated as Korean language. Therefore, many Chinese people make a mistake in using endings when they learn Korean language. Unlike the Chinese language, adnominal ending in Korean language has a very unique grammar. In the Chinese language, for example, if an integrative structural postposition 'jeok' is added to verb, noun or adjective, it becomes an adnominal phrase. In the Korean language, however, an adnominal marker 'ui' is added to substantives to make an adnominal phrase. In the predicate, an adnominal ending is added to a stem to for an adnominal phrase.
This study is structured as follows: The basic forms of adnominal endings are set to '-n, -neun, -l and –deon' based on previous studies, and their syntactic and semantic functions and constraints are summarized and mentioned in chapter 2.
In chapter 3, a questionnaire survey is performed against 30 Chinese people learning Korean language to collect errors from various aspects. Then, learners' awarenessof the adnominal ending, adnominal clause-embedded sentence, syntactic & semantic constraints and constraints in combination with pre-final ending is examined. The causes of a lot of errors originate from differences in the meaning of tense between Korean and Chinese languages and in the recognition of a part of speech in Korean language.
In chapter 4, relatively effective learning and teaching plans for Chinese people are analyzed based on the parts in which many errors are detected.
This study investigated the errors which are frequently found when Chinese people use adnominal endings in Korean Language. It is expected that the results would be helpful for Chinese people to learn Korean language. However, further studies need to be conducted to make up the study results. In addition, there should more studies which cover other aspects as well as adnominal endings for Chinese people learning Korean language.
