A Study on Fused forms of '-dago ha' Final endings for Korean Language Education: Focusing on the purpose of discourse analysis in Korean language textbooks
The study explored the meaning of the final ending using of ’-dago ha’ in Korean language text book. One of the characteristics of Korean is the final ending of the sentences. The final ending of the sentences have various functions in Korean. Therefore, for the students who learn Korean as a second language, it is difficult to get the proper concept of this language. Especially ’-dago ha’ as a fused form of final ending contains several meanings. The speakers can performed their attitudes differently by saying the same phrase (word) which leads to the diverse purposes of conversations. The study is separated in 4 chapters. By analyzing the text books to discover the purpose of conversation when using ’-dago ha’ and fix the insufficiency in the present text books to help the lecturers understanding the characteristic and the proper purpose of conversation.
The study was conducted in the following order:
First chapter explained the purpose and the necessity of study, reviewed the study and raised the direction and question of the study. Until now, the scholars have different scopes of fused form of final ending ‘-dago ha’. For this reason, in chapter 2, after discussed the concept of fused form of final ending ’-dago ha’ will summarize the past studies of ’-dago ha’. In the end, this study sorted out the list of fused form of final ending ‘-dago ha’. There were very few studies discussed about ’-dago ha’ so it’s necessary to confirm the practicality through database. The final ending that appeared in the database is also listed in the study. Due to the complexity, at the end of chapter 2 analyzed the frequency of text books and chose ’-dago’, ’-dani’, ’-daniga’, ’-damyeoseo’ which appeared the most as the study target. Even though ’-dae’ got the highest frequency after the analyzation, due to the characteristic differences compared to the other four and its simplicity, the study excluded ’-dae’ and focused on the for ’-dago ha’ fused form of final endings. Before analyzed the concept in the text books, chapter 3 first discussed the criteria and method to analyze the purpose first. By using the method, chapter 4 figured out the purpose of conversation of ’-dago’, ’-dani’, ’-daniga’, ’-damyeoseo’ in the text books. At the end of the study analyzed the meaning of each target, intonation and the way to express it. Especially for the lecturers who not using Korean language as the mother tongue can use this study to teach the purpose of conversation of ’-dago’, ’-dani’, ’-daniga’, ’-damyeoseo’ properly and systematically.
