The purpose of this study is to organize the list of expression patterns in Korean language education and provide integrated contents for grammar education - considering form, meaning, and function. In order to achieve this, the subject of this study was limited to bound noun {su} - a representative form in expression pattern - and discussions were focused on the three following specific goals: First, to organize the expression entries of expression patterns, a criteria and plan for integrating and separating the existing entries of expression patterns were introduced. Second, expression patterns constructed with bound noun {su} were reviewed by applying this criteria and plan. Then, expression pattern that contain bound noun {su} and can be dealt with differential grammatical features were chosen. Third, contents for grammar education - covering form, meaning, and pragmatics - were arranged with the chosen expression patterns.
In Chapter 1, based on the necessity of studying expression pattern, the necessity of choosing expression pattern with bound nouns and studying plans for describing the contents were studied. Also, the purpose and specific goals of this study were set.
In Chapter 2, the theoretical background of this study was looked into, and a criteria and plan for organizing expression patterns were introduced. In other words, with meaning as the standard, concepts were drawn for basic form, variant form, and extended form.
In Chapter 3, problems in educating expression pattern with bound noun {su} were looked into by researching the types of expression pattern with bound noun {su} in Korean textbooks and dictionaries used for education, and how these textbooks and dictionaries explained the expression patterns. As a result, it was revealed that the expression pattern with bound noun {su} in textbooks and dictionaries differed and therefore, not organized. Also, the explanations were not balanced in form, meaning, and pragmatics.
In Chapter 4, validity was examined for the formerly chosen expression patterns with bound noun {su}, and expression patterns that can be used individually were chosen. In the choosing process, the existing entries of expression patterns were organized based on their meaning. Then for the entries separated into a basic form, the final choosing process for individual expression pattern was completed based on whether the meanings had assessment by looking into the details of their semantic function.
In Chapter 5, explanation for the grammatical contents of the finally chosen expression pattern with bound noun {su} was discussed. The grammatical contents of the expression patterns with bound noun {su} were established by explaining meaning focused on the change in limitations for form and syntax and discourse functions according to the discourse context.
Finally in Chapter 6, the previous chapters were organized with their results, and the significance and limitations of this study in studies related to expression pattern in Korean language educations were looked into.
This study shows its significance in providing the criteria and plan for organizing the list of expression patterns with bound noun {su}, looking into the validity of choosing expression pattern by applying this criteria and plan, and finally organizing the list. Also, this is a discussion that is not limited to a study on expression pattern with bound noun {su}; it is a discussion on expression patterns in Korean language education. Therefore, this study can be used as basic data for establishing a system for expression patterns in Korean language education and providing an in-depth explanation for grammatical contents.
