Korea and China has contacted friendly for long time with many fields as economic, culture, politic and so on. Because of affecting each other for thousands years, a circle of Chinese character culture between the two countries has been built up. Although the characters of the two countries are similar to each other on a deep degree, differences are coming out during the development and the change of history, which show the feature of their own culture and social background. There are many homonyms in same shape of Chinese character between both countries, sometimes they share the same form, meaning and usage, sometimes not. For the Chinese learners who learn Korean, these words are not only the main point, but also the difficult point. So it is very important to study on these words.
Chapter 1 covers the research purpose and necessity of this study, and shows the scope, method about of the research and the advanced research. For the detailed analysis of Sino-Korean, "Report of Selected Vocabulary for Learning Korean"(Jo, Namho, 2002) is presented. From 1530 words of the same shape we divided into two types, one is the Same-Character & Same-Meaning words and the other is the Same-Character & Different-Meaning words.
Chapter 2 describes theoretical backgrounds of this study, which will be used for analyses in chapter 3~4. For example, 'What is the words in the same shape between korean and chinese', 'How to separate the Same-Meaning words from the Different-Meaning words' and 'What is the meaning-expansion, meaning-reducing and meaning-transference' are presented one by one.
In Chapter 3, through synchronic comparison with Two-syllable words in same shape between Korean and Chinese, I can divide them into Same-Character & Same-Meaning words and Same-Character & Different-Meaning words. In the latter words, I focused the study on the process and the cause of the meaning-change by three aspects, namely meaning-expansion(the used meaning is broader than the original sense), meaning-reducing(the used meaning is narrower than the original sense) and meaning-transference(the used meaning is perfectly different from the original sense).
The meaning-change of Sino-Korean and Chinese depends on variable causes like linguistic cause, social cause, psychological cause and historic cause. So in chapter 4, the reasons of the meaning-change of Two-syllable words in same shape between Korean and Chinese were studied.
The same shaped words between Sino-Korean and Chinese can be advantageous for people to learn Korean or Chinese. However, they can also be harmful if we don't know the subtle differences of the word meanings or ignore them. I sincerely hope this study can contribute the reference to people who are learning Korean or Chinese.
