The purpose of this study is to develop a teaching method of speaking the Korean language using educational theatre for advanced learner's speaking ability. The teaching method of speaking using educational theatre is beneficial to improve the communicative competence that allows the learners to carry out good communication in real situations of speaking in Korean.
The learners, especially advanced learners, want various practical materials and programs to develop their speaking skills. Also, the teachers should give them more chances to speak and join in the classes.
This suggests educational theatre is an efficient tool for Korean learners to improve their communication ability, expression ability and imaginative thinking ability in the comprehensive Korean education. In addition, they can share their ideas and opinions with their classmates through the group work.
In this , I also use Korean literature <Chun Hyang Jeon> as a text. In Korean classical novels, there are Korean traditional values and culture which the foreign learners should know. Korean literature deserves to be used as a Korean language teaching method so that Korean teachers can educate with literature and culture at the same time.
Therefore educational theatre and Korean literature are good ways to learn languages and should produce better results for advanced learners.
In chapter 2, I examined the necessities for Korean speaking education, and educational theatre's concept and types as a speaking material. Also it was proposed the educational theatre's types that effectively lead to participation in Korean speaking lessons.
In chapter 3, a survey was carried out on education on advanced foreign learners, studying Korean, to find out about their opinions on learning Korean by using educational theatre and Korean literature. From this, valid reasoning was given to base this research.
In chapter 4, based on previous studies, I arranged the selection criteria of Korean literature and chose <Chun Hyang Jeon> as a text. The teaching plans for advanced learner's Korean speaking skills were prepared by using educational theatre such as role play, discussion drama, changing of the ending and as panels on the play.
In chapter 5, this study was summarized and concluded with a review of its limitations.
