This dissertation examines the system between the formation and change process of listemes in the lexicon, and clarifies a stepwise correlation of formation → listedness → change. These listemes include not only morphological units such as affixes and words, but also syntactic units such as collocations, auxiliary verbs constructions, and formal nouns constructions. In chapter 2, I refer the basic points about the theoretical grammatical model and the concerned units of this . Above all, I should make clear the grammatical model, because syntactic units are included in a subject of this study as well as morphological units. The lexicon plays a central role in this study. Therefore, I look through existing theories from 70's generative morphology to recent Korean morphology that are related to the lexicon models, and establish my suggestions at last. Especially I emphasize two components, the formation component and the storage component. The former has the morphological component and the syntactic component, and the latter is the lexicon. In chapter 3, I define the listedness stage, and discuss a correlation between the formation and change. At first, the notion and features of the listedness are suggested. The three kinds of listemes such as complex words, collocations, and auxiliary verbs constructions/formal nouns constructions are established with the common criteria. Especially, the criteria divide listedness into two subclasses on the diversified side, the language internal listedness and the language external listedness, and formulate a function for synchronic formation and diachronic change with two features, coherence and compositionality. Besides the important frame of this study is suggested, formation → listedness → change. In this process, I establish the possible words - listed words criterion and the individual words - institutionalized words criterion, and examine a correlation between them, then also discuss existence issues, synchronic and diachronic issues. In chapter 4, I investigate the formation which is a preliminary stage for the listedness, and emphasis the synchronic character of formation with nonce words. In this process, the standpoint of this will be revealed about syntagmatic relations and paradigmatic relations of word formation. And the three kinds of formations are examined with a α criterion that is established in chapter 3, then these objects are described with the conditions of listedness. The parallel character between word formation and collocation formation is discussed, and I try to explain the same frame for auxiliary verbs constructions and formal nouns constructions as well. In chapter 5, I investigate the change which is a next stage for the listedness, and emphasis the diachronic character of general language change with complex words, collocations, and auxiliary verbs constructions/formal nouns constructions. The listeme internal change and the listeme external change can be applied to the three kinds of objects, and the generality of them will be catched. The change is divided into two types: the change through analysis and the change through univerbation. urthermore, the two types of change can be subclassified into three ways again. Especially, the latter is composed of the lexicalization of complex words, the idiomaticization of collocations, and the grammaticalization of auxiliary verbs constructions/ formal nouns constructions. Consequently, this dissertation argues the listedness is an important subject of grammatical study, not only a process of memory, by clarifying a stepwise correlation of formation → listedness → change.
