I selected common idioms in both languages as the topic of a study,
particularly, idioms relating to horse, ox and dog are main topic of my
research . This research aims at collecting idioms subject to
horse, ox and dog that have deer correlation with human mood and
action, and comparing them.
Idioms relating to horse, ox and dog in both Korean and Mongolian
languages are studied in following ways: By action: Idioms expressing
realization, wisdom, teaching, moral and allegory are distinguished and
explained, respectively. By appearance: Idioms including body organ and
appearance are distinguished and explained. By semantic context: Idioms
are classified in a way that ones which have same meaning though
there are idioms only used in Korean and only used in Mongolian,
respectively; and ones which are used in both languages and have
same meaning, and studied. For selection of idioms relating to animals
in both languages: Firstly, I collected idioms relating to horse, ox and
dog from idioms dictionaries in both languages and then those idioms
are translated from Mongolian into Korean and vice versa; and the
meanings are explained.
All in all, idioms relating to horse, ox and dog in both languages are
absorbed by their respective mentality and thoughts: have deep relation
with their lifestyle, custom and culture. In addition to this, it includes all of the realization, wisdom, teaching, moral and allegory.
