This study is aiming to find the effective instruction method of Korean language writing by examining the characteristics of Korean language learners’ writing which can be seen in errorless expressions of corpus and by analyzing the causes of them after establishing the Chinese learners’ writing corpus.
In foreign learner’s learning of Korean language, the great weight is being placed on the writing study. However, the writing study has concentrated on the analysis of the errors in using prefixes and suffixes. There has been no research studies on writing by using the corpus. Therefore, the measuring of the learners’ writing materials by building the learner’s corpus will be very helpful for looking into the characteristics of Korean text writings.
This study firstly made the guiding principles for building the corpus and then learner’s writing corpus itself. The characteristics of Chinese learners’ using vocabulary and suffixes, and sentence buildings were examined continuously. In vocabulary use, the using of the preferred vocabulary was understood through vocabulary distribution. In the word structures, the characteristics of vocabulary use of learners were looked into by this study. Chines learners preferred the verbs ‘가다(go)’ and ‘있다(is or exist).’ The verbs and adjectives transcribed into the Chinese letters are very frequently used, too.
In the analysis of Chinese learners' grammatical features of writing, the author mainly analyze through the usage of particle and suffix. First of all, as to the particle usage, the Chinese learners present the same highest frequency of using ‘을/를’, ‘이/가’, ‘은/는’ as the Korean people, while with the different frequency of using ‘의’. In using the suffixes, Chinese learners frequently use ‘-고,’ the equal connecting suffix, but rarely use ‘-(으)며’ and ‘-아/어,’ the subordinate connecting suffix. Looking into the characteristics of Chinese learners’ sentence buildings, they use rather the compound sentences than simple sentences. This is because the learner tends to build the complex sentences when getting knowledge about suffixes. In using compound sentences, the connected sentences are more preferred than short sentences. In using the basic sentence patterns, Chinese learners most preferably use ‘NP/V/NP’ patterns and it was followed by ‘NP/Adj,’ ‘NP/V,’ and ‘NP/NP.’
Errors in corpus were examined with the analysis of the causes of them. The error analysis was proceeded with the division into vocabulary errors, grammatical errors, sentence order errors, and other errors. Each error was analyzed again divided into ellipsis, addition and replacement. The usual errors made by Chinese learners are characterized as follows: First, the types of errors are very diverse; second, the replacement errors show the high frequency; third, the expression errors using Chinese words are often occurred owing to the influence of Chinese language. In addition, the causes of errors in writing corpus of Chinese learners were also analyzed. These were examined in four categories such as inter-language transition, transition in language, the field of learning, and communication strategy. Through these processes, the cause of errors occurred in writing corpus of Chinese learners were suggested.
Finally, the author tries to propose instructive suggestions for Korean writing. Firstly, both the advantages and disadvantages of the previous guiding program are analyzed. Secondly, based on the right expressions collected in the writing corpus of Chinese learners, the author presents the new guidance program. Thirdly, based on the errors made by the Chinese learners in the corpus, the author presents the other guidance program. Finally, on the whole the author tries to design the course syllabus for teachers on Korean writing.
