Proper pronunciation is the prerequisite of accurately using language and expressing ideas. This study tries to compare and analyze the monophthongs of the Chinese and one of Korean and explore an effective way of how to master Korean pronunciation for the Chinese learners through experimental phonetic analysis.
This study suggest an efficient educational method by analyzing pronunciation mistakes in Korean monophthongs made by Chinese learners based on SLM of Flege(1995).
A contrastive analysis of Korean monophthongs and Chinese monophthongs was made to identify reasons why Chinese learners have difficulties in learning Korean pronunciation. It was found out in the study that Chinese learners made pronunciation mistakes in Korean monophthongs due to sounds of Chinese characters. Another reason for pronunciation difficulties is the negative transition of Chinese based on an interference phenomenon of the same type of Chinese characters between Korean and Chinese.
Therefore, the study was able to estimate mistakes that Chinese learners could make in Korean monophthong pronunciation due to an interference phenomenon of the same type of Chinese characters.
This study research on not only how monophthong pronounce the chinese learners have an awareness of difficulties, but also discovered of how frequently they actually make mistakes on what monophthongs.
In conclusion, An instructional education plan were also suggested based on the research and its analysis. Furthermore, this plan have its purpose to efficiently correct Chinese learners’ mistakes and to have them correctly pronounced.
