<Abstract>
The purpose of this study is to analyze how Korean serial verbs are translated into English. The Korean-English parallel corpus is taken from two Korean novels, The Place Where the Harmonium Was(Shin, 2012) and Our Twisted Hero(Lee, 1992). According to the number and order of the translated verbs, 221 sentences including the serial verbs are divided into three categories: Type 1, translating one verb only; Type 2, translating both verbs; and Type 3, paraphrasing. Pattern 1 is reclassified into two sub-categories, which are the translation of 'V1 only' and 'V2 only', and, Pattern 2, into two sub-categories, which are translating into [V1 / V2] and [V2 / V1].
Type 1 features in what verb has the central meaning of the serial verbs, and whether the serial verbs have the auxiliary verbs. In Type 2, among two verbs of the serial verbs, the verb which stands for the central meaning precedes the other verb, which represents as adverbs, prepositions, or nouns. Korean serial verbs of Type 3 are paraphrased when translating into English.
