This study aims at selecting and presenting job-oriented Korean terms of manufacturing plastics in which there are most foreigners work in Korean industry. To do this, this study reviewed theoretical backgrounds and divided the types of words for specialized purpose, and then surveyed the classification of specialized terms in Korean education for special purpose and its significance in the field.
Selecting job-oriented Korean terms was done through an eclectic method combining an objective method of field survey with a subjective method based on the text. The texts for selecting terms was chosen the books specialized in manufacturing plastics presenting the aspects necessary in the manufacturing field with the help from the experts. Then the hands-on staff in the field surveyed based on a questionaire specified into A, B, C according to their frequency of the terms. In addition, the terms used in real field were also surveyed.
Then a list of the terms for teaching the foreign workers was made a with respect to their significance of utilization in the field of manufacturing plastics after collecting the terms. This list of terms was presented in order to be utilized by teachers and learners as a reference for developing curricula and teaching materials.
There has been a lack of terms specialized for a specific job for foreign workers, and the significance of this study is to suggest a list of terms of manufacturing plastics in which there are most foreigners work. There must be further studies on various terms in accordance with the field of work for foreign workers.
