The aim of this thesis is to investigate the limitations and problems of the Korean reading·writing textbooks by examining the Korean reading·writing sections to improve the Korean reading·writing ability of female married immigrants, and further to suggest a direction of Korean reading·writing education for female married immigrants under the results on the demand survey analysis of the teachers and the female married immigrants.
There was a lot of difference between the contents of the Korean reading sections of the textbooks and the practical materials which should be read to acquire information in ordinary lives. And the writing activities were arranged into writing some materials related to reading. However, it was pointed out that the writing activities did not become a significant writing activity due to the instruction of the writing activities without preparatory activities and model or examples.
To identify these limitations and problems, a survey was carried out for the teachers and the female married immigrants in Gyeongsan. This survey showed specifically the general situation of the learners and the teachers, the attitude about the Korean reading·writing, the recognition and demand about the reading·writing section of the textbook. The results of analysis for the survey are as follows.
Firstly, female married immigrants were learning Korean language with the object of knowing more about Korean culture, working life, and their children's education. They thought that reading·writing was important in learning Korean language, but they do not learn well due to lack of confidence. In case of demand for Korean reading·writing textbook, the demands of reading materials for information understanding and transfer were high, which were direct and practical materials for ordinary lives. And the demands of writing materials for promoting friendly relations which can be used simply were high.
Secondly, the demands of learners were analyzed by the variations such as age, academic ability of learners, learning period of Korean. In case of the difference in Korean reading·writing attitude by ages, the higher the age of learners was, the higher the affirmative response and the activeness were. In the level of difficulty of Korean reading activity by academic abilities, the lower the academic ability was, the higher the level of difficulty was. It was shown that the level of difficulty of writing activity was high regardless of academic ability. In the reading attitude by Korean learning periods, the longer the period was, the higher the attitude was. In the writing attitude, it was shown that the interest or the necessity on the writing was high regardless of the period.
Thirdly, in the result of the survey for the Korean teachers, it was shown that they preferred a guided exercise in reading·writing class, student-centered self-regulating lecture, and classroom activity made out of deskmate activity. In the whether-or-not of textbook use, it was shown that they used the recomposed textbooks. In the research of teachers' recognition, it was shown that the focused part which should be taught in the education of Korean language was reading and writing.
Under these results of this thesis, it is possible to suggest a direction of Korean language education to improve the Korean reading·writing ability of female married immigrants.
It is necessary to set up a goal of the Korean reading·writing education for female married immigrants, with which they can improve their ability for ordinary lives basically and adapt themselves to Korean society and culture flexibly.
The current unified activity in Korean language education should be performed together with the education by language functions. And the educational materials of textbooks should be composed of mainly contents by which they can understand cultural diversity and can do mutual cultural communication.
This thesis is written under the specific demand survey based on the recognition of importance of Korean reading·writing education for female married immigrants. It is anticipated that the research contents and results of this thesis is helpful for further systemic research works in Korean reading·writing education for female married immigrants.
